Job Description

Assembly Technician – Engineering Team

BiomeSense is revolutionizing human health by developing novel hardware for daily gut microbiome sampling and AI-driven analytics. We're a fast-paced hardware startup, and we're looking for a highly skilled Assembly Technician to join our Engineering team and help bring our technology to life.

If you're a hands-on technical problem-solver who excels at prototyping, electro-mechanical assembly, and troubleshooting, this is your chance to make a direct impact on a cutting-edge scientific platform.

What You'll Do: The Core Mission

You will be the key technical resource responsible for the build quality and serviceability of our novel GutLab hardware.

  • Hardware Build & Test: Perform detailed electrical, mechanical, and fluidic assembly of hardware prototypes and sub-assemblies following engineering specifications and SOPs.
  • Troubleshooting & Repair: Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair complex hardware, software, and firmware issues on prototypes, both in the lab and in the field.
  • Engineering Enablement: Design, build, and improve test setups and fixtures to optimize assembly and validation efficiency. Maintain a clean, organized, and properly inventoried hardware lab.
  • Documentation & Quality: Create and refine high-quality documentation (SOPs, manuals) to ensure rapid, high-quality production, and provide critical assembly feedback to the engineering design team.

What You'll Bring: The Must-Haves

  • Associate’s Degree (or equivalent training) + 3 years of hands-on experience in a hardware Technician role, with a focus on prototype assembly.
  • Expertise with a wide variety of hand tools, power tools, and measurement equipment (calipers, multimeters, etc.).
  • Proven ability to perform detailed wiring, harnessing, and soldering.
  • Highly organized, proactive, and independent. Ready to thrive in a startup environment.
  • Willingness to travel up to 25% for field repair and system installation.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 5 years of hands-on experience in a hardware Technician role, with a focus on prototype assembly.
  • Experience with instrument control software and/or basic scripting.
  • Familiarity with prototyping techniques (e.g., 3D printing, light machining).
  • Prior experience in a production line or scaling environment.
