We are looking for a motivated and experienced Veterinary Assistant for Value Pet Clinic (PetCare Clinic) in Puyallup. The perfect candidate would be a team player with a positive attitude, reliable and ready to work.

Our Veterinary Assistant team nurtures the wellbeing of every animal in our care by providing food, grooming and assistance with hygiene. As a Veterinary Assistant, you will gain valuable skills such as the ability to perform routine medical procedures (vaccines, fecal exams, medication administration, etc.), cleaning/wrapping/autoclaving surgical packs for the Veterinary team, maintaining medical paperwork and developing professional communication skills as you follow up with clients. REQUIREMENTS FOR VETERINARY ASSISTANT
Experience in customer service, animal handling and providing medical/surgical assistance in a kennel environment is preferred. Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to prioritize and problem solve are necessary in this role. Must be detail-oriented, and understand that a Veterinary Assistant will often work closely with animal hair/dander. Professionalism, courtesy, tact, and sound judgment are key in this role. Candidate must have the ability to work in both a team and self-directed environment. About the organization
A nonprofit organization dedicated to animal welfare and the protection of animals in the Peninsula area of the San Francisco Bay Area in California that offers various services and programs focused on animal care, adoption, education, and advocacy.
Position Overview: 
To provide medical care as well as humane care and treatment to all sheltered animals in accordance with the policies and procedures established by the organization. To ensure proper admitting, preparation, monitoring, recovery and discharge of animals in the spay/neuter clinic. Perform job duties within established protocols and procedures set by he organization.
Essential  Duties and Responsibilities (Other duties may be assigned)

<li>Conduct assigned morning and evening rounds of all areas of the shelter to ensure the well being of all animals.</li>
<li>Prepare daily list of animals requiring vet exams.</li>
<li>Administer daily medical treatment to all sheltered animals as prescribed by staff veterinarians.</li>
<li>Assist veterinarian in examination and treatment of animals. Assist veterinarian with emergency medical treatment as necessary.</li>
<li>Perform health checks of animals before they are placed for adoption.</li>

· Minimum two years experience as assistant.
GENERAL REQUIREMENTS
· Minimum age of 18 years.
· Genuinely enjoys working with animals and able to deal with them even when they are stressed, ill or in pain.
· Can stay calm and efficient during a medical crisis.
· Is well spoken and approaches his/her job duties in a mature nature.
· Has experience working in a team environment and works well with all levels of hospital team members.

· Understands usage and common side effects for commonly used prescription drugs and can readily explain them to the clients.
· Is able to perform emergency procedures such as control of bleeding, resuscitation with oxygen, opening airways, and external cardiac massage.
· Is comfortable and knowledgeable when handling client’s medical questions with confidence and direct to veterinarians when appropriate.
· Is able to explain necessary follow-up and homecare instructions to clients.
· Properly cares for all surgical materials; keeps the operating room properly stocked and prepared for surgery.
· Radiographs - can effectively position patients and process.
Administrative Duties
· Keeps accurate medical records in accordance hospital policy.
· Prepares and maintains treatment areas.

WAGES AND BENEFITS
