Position Summary
The Office of the General Counsel (OGC) currently consists of 16 attorneys working collaboratively to provide a full range of legal services to Columbia University. &nbsp;OGC is seeking an attorney to work primarily on employment related issues in connection with Columbia University Irving Medical Center (CUIMC).&nbsp; CUIMC is one of the nation’s largest academic medical centers, and includes the Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons, School of Dental Medicine, Mailman School of Public Health and School of Nursing. &nbsp;Experience in employment law is required. The ideal candidate would also have experience in a university or hospital setting or background in healthcare law. &nbsp;The Assistant/Associate title and salary will be commensurate with level of relevant experience.
Responsibilities
<ul>
<li>Provide advice and counsel to the General Counsel and CUIMC clients on a wide range of faculty and other employee matters; Be responsible for employment related litigation and pre-litigation matters including: Support internal investigations and audits, Review and answer/direct subpoenas, and Participate in, oversee and provide guidance on mediation, arbitration, grievances and disciplinary actions, and collective bargaining;</li>
</ul>
Develop litigation strategy and oversee outside counsel in litigation matters; Respond to inquiries on regulatory matters and advise on and support compliance activities; Develop, draft and interpret University policies including those related to CUIMC’s faculty and staﬀ; Prepare documents and review/negotiate agreements; and Support all University related legal efforts as needed.
Minimum Qualifications &amp; Skills
Education:
A Juris Doctor degree from a nationally recognized law school with excellent academic credentials in law school and in undergraduate studies.

POSITION QUALIFICATION/REQUIREMENTS: · Degree/Education: Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) or Doctor of Osteopathy (D.O.). o Graduate from an accredited medical school in the United States or Canada. o This degree must have been accredited by the Council on Medical Education of the American Medical Association; Association of American Medical Colleges; Liaison Committee on Medical Education; Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation of the American Osteopathic Association, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education and the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) at the time the degree was obtained (e.g. Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC), College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC). o A Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree from a foreign medical school must provide education and medical knowledge substantially equivalent to accredited schools in the United States. DUTIES: · Perform as MTF subject matter expert in plastic surgery. · Perform preoperative assessment of patients encompassing all plastic surgery pathology · Perform invasive procedures and operations for correction of plastic surgery deformities due to trauma and congenital or acquired anomalies. · Maintain professional competency involving clinical skills and knowledge through participation in professional organizations, self-directed journal readings, and attendance at in-service and continuing education programs. · Complete all forms and reports accurately and promptly when appropriate. · Instruct and teach the NCR members as necessary. Facilitate complex cases involving invasive monitoring and vasoactive infusions. Provide patient education on therapy, medications, and procedures when necessary. · Perform other related duties and tasks as assigned (e.g. on call duties). · Participate in the clinic quality assurance, utilization review, risk management, and peer review activities. Attend medical staff meetings as required. · Prepare and review case histories and obtain data through interviews of patients. · Examine patients and determine required radiology examinations and clinical laboratory tests. As required, the HCW will serve in a teaching capacity to staff members assigned to the MTF and ambulatory clinics. · The HCW is responsible for maintaining accurate clinical records and receiving consultations and laboratory work of specific patients. · Provide advice and opinions upon request by the Chief, Plastic &amp; Reconstructive Service or the referring physician in support of patient care and treatment. · The HCW shall be responsible for providing medical care during the required work hours and shall provide immediate evaluation and management of emergent problems as they occur. Contractor shall complete medical charting within 72 hours of patient visit IAW JC guidelines. · The HCW shall assume additional administrative or clinical duties as requested or needed to ensure sustainment of normal clinic operations and ensure compliance with JC standards, to include, but not limited to, managing daily schedules, reviewing and disposition consults, monitoring appointment utilization and patient access to care, conducting mandatory clinical training, monitoring clinic supplies and equipment, ensuring enforcement of clinic SOPs and standards, conducting monthly peer review and attend. · Ensure compliance with standard of care and practice in accordance with all established policies, procedures, and guidelines used in the medical treatment MTF and IAW JC guidelines. Perform all clinical duties in a collaborative manner and manage patients in accordance with established guidelines and standards of care · Provide appropriate guidance regarding preventive health measures, health maintenance, healthy lifestyle choices, and self-care skills through education and counseling. · Review, sort, prioritize, and appoint all consults according to established protocol within clinic as necessary to ensure patient access. · Provide and document basic health education to patients and families. · Provide medication instruction to patients. Describe medication side effects. Provide patient education and instruction on use of medical devices, and other durable medical equipment. Labor CORE DUTIES: · Perform a full range of physician services in accordance with privileges granted by the MTF. · Direct, perform, or assist in the instruction of other health care professionals within the scope of the clinical privileges or responsibilities. · Examine, diagnose, treat or prescribe courses of treatment within the scope of training, experience, and privileges Provide preventive and health maintenance care, including annual physicals, positive health behaviors, and self-care skills through education and counseling. · Order diagnostic tests as applicable as well as request consultation or referral with appropriate physicians, clinics, or other health resources as indicated. · Technically proficient in directing and teaching other medical staff, providing educational lectures, and participating in the provision of in-service training to clinic staff members. Such direction and interaction will adhere to Government and professional clinical standards and accepted clinical protocols. HOURS: · Walter Reed National Military Medical Center (WRNMMC) and DiLorenzo Pentagon Health Clinic (DPHC): Operates 24 hours daily/7 days weekly/365 yearly/366 days in leap years for inpatient services including holidays. · Full-time contractor personnel typically work 40 hours per week unless mission dictates changes. · Operates Monday – Friday 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., closed on weekends and federal holidays. Duty hours include a one-hour, unpaid lunch period, excluding federal recognized holidays and other times the clinic is authorized to be closed by the Clinic Director. · Duty hours will not exceed 80 hours in a two-week period. Hours worked do not include travel to and from the work location. · Due to the nature of patient care, HCWs may be required to work beyond 40 hours per week; however, hours will not exceed 80 hours in a two week period. · Hours exceeding 40 hours per week will be coordinated and adjusted with the Contractor, Government supervisor, and COR to not exceed 80 hours within the current two-week period. · HCWs will be paid only for the hours worked at the established rate for the CLINs. Overtime is not authorized. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS/SKILLS Must be comfortable in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. Must be able and willing to reprioritize on short notice and work on multiple simultaneous projects.
