Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

<li>With the other assistant directors and under the supervision of the director, manages ongoing daily activities of the library</li>
<li>Coordinates with the director and other assistant directors in short- and long-range planning for the library, and takes a leading role in creating and implementing library guidelines and procedures</li>
<li>Acts in the stead of the director in his absence, either alone or in cooperation with the other assistant directors</li>
<li>Coordinates with other library departments in connection with Resource Management Services activities affecting those departments</li>
<li>Maintains oversight for the library's integrated system, and works with the library management systems librarian on priorities for technical support issues</li>
<li>Collaborates with librarians with responsibilities related to electronic resources to discuss and resolve problems, review updates, and enhancements affecting the library’s electronic resources</li>

Minimum Qualifications:

<li>Graduate degree in library or information science (e.g., MLS) from an ALA-accredited institution or completion of degree requirements by the time of appointment, and</li>
<li>A minimum of five years of post-graduate degree experience in resource management services with a broad knowledge of acquisitions and continuing resources, cataloging and/or metadata, and library management systems; strong managerial, problem-solving, project management, and communication and writing skills</li>

Extended Day Employees receive full tuition remission for Extended Day services for the period of time up until the end of their regular workday. Summer Programs Employees are eligible to receive discounts on Summer Programs offered by St. Christopher's School. Discounts are also available for summer Extended Day offerings. Meals Employees receive lunch at no expense while School is in session. In order to perform normal mealtime duties, all full-time employees, as well as their immediate families, may receive breakfast five days a week and dinner two days a week at no expense when breakfast or dinner is served. Additionally, lunch fees are waived for full-time employees' sons enrolled at St. Christopher's School. Leave Policies Wellness Leave Full-time employees receive ten (10) paid wellness leave days per fiscal year and may accumulate and carry forward any unused wellness leave days to a maximum of sixty (60) days. Included in the 10 wellness days are two (2) personal days that may be converted and used. Part-time employees will receive and may accumulate and carry forward a prorated amount of wellness leave days based upon the amount of time worked. Employees should provide as much notice as possible when requesting wellness leave and must have a supervisor's approval. Bereavement/Funeral Leave Employees may take up to five (5) days of paid bereavement leave for an immediate family member. Professional Development The School is committed to supporting the professional growth of employees and will cover costs associated with job-related courses, workshops, conferences, professional associations and graduate degrees. Coverage of costs is budget dependent year to year and subject to the approval of both the employee's Division Head and the Headmaster. Onsite Childcare Little Saints, an on-site daycare facility, is available to employees on a voluntary basis and at the employee's expense. Relocation / Moving Expense Policy St. Christopher's School will provide reimbursement to new full-time employees who are relocating to the Richmond area as a result of their new position with the School. Consistent with IRS guidelines, the School's reimbursement support applies only to required moves for new employees whose primary residence is located in excess of 50 miles from the St. Christopher's School campus. JOB SUMMARY
Under the direction of the Head of Middle School and the Middle School Librarian, the Assistant Librarian supports the effective use of ideas and information by students and faculty. The Assistant Librarian helps foster a love of learning and encourages students to become critical thinkers, enthusiastic readers, skillful researchers, and ethical users of information. In this role, the Assistant Librarian collaborates with the Middle School Librarian and faculty to assist in designing and implementing lessons as well as supporting student learning. The Assistant Librarian contributes to the daily operation of the library and provides essential support to ensure that the library program aligns with the mission, goals, and objectives of the School.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

<li>Manages the daily operation of the middle school library and all library programs to include maintaining the general upkeep and function of the library.</li>
<li>Collaborates with other divisional librarians JK-12 to ensure efficient and cohesive operations and services on behalf of students. </li>
<li>Participates in relevant academic development in partnership with the Librarian.</li>
<li>Supports an environment that is conducive to active and participatory learning, resource-based instructional practices, and collaboration with faculty.</li>

<li>Assists in identifying materials (books, media, digital resources) for purchase based on user demand, circulation trends, and gaps in the collection to develop a current and balanced collection representing diverse points of view in accordance with the materials selection policy.</li>
<li>Performs copy cataloging using MARC and internal cataloging standards.</li>
<li>Updates bibliographic and item records to ensure accuracy, quality, and consistency in the library system.</li>
<li>Processes new materials for shelving to include: stamping, barcoding, covering, classifying, and labeling materials based on internal cataloging standards.</li>
<li>Conducts regular and routine shelf-reading and collection audits to ensure accuracy and organization.</li>
<li>Assists with weeding projects to identify outdated, damaged, or low-use materials.</li>
<li>Repairs minor damage (rebinding, recovering, mending) to extend item lifespan.</li>

JOB REQUIREMENTS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

<li>Master’s in Library Science or Library and Information Science (MLS/MLIS) from a graduate library program accredited by the American Library Association preferred.</li>
<li>At least three years’ library/teaching experience.</li>
<li>Must enjoy working with middle school students in grades 5-8.</li>
<li>Participates willingly in the life of the School beyond the classroom.</li>
<li>Experience working in a one-to-one laptop environment or relevant technology skills.</li>
