Typical Duties - Duties include, but are not limited to the following

<li>Provide individual and group therapy to individuals using a variety of evidence-based practices as clinically indicated, which may include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), Collaborative Assessment and Management of Suicidality (CAMS), Collaborative Problem-Solving (CPI), and Motivational Interviewing. </li>
<li>Provide advanced and specialized therapeutic interventions to individuals, such as EMDR, advanced DBT, ACT, etc.</li>
<li>Work independently to provide crisis assessment and specific intervention services, including development of safety/crisis plans and suicide and self-harm risk assessments. </li>
</ul>
Case Management &amp; Consultation 
<ul>
<li>Determine individual service needs, eligibility, and appropriateness of services. </li>
<li>Provide case management to include making referrals and coordinating with other agencies to obtain services and resources for individuals; and advocacy and brokerage on behalf of client to access community resources, benefits, and entitlements. </li>
<li>Provides individual case specific consultation to other providers and community partners, which may include recommendations for risk reduction.</li>
<li>Work on development of individuals' natural supports.</li>
<li>May make recommendations for the courts regarding individual status, including risk factors and level of functioning.</li>

Assessments &amp; Treatment Planning

<li>Provide intake and annual comprehensive mental health assessments, including assessing mental health and/or behavioral symptoms using a variety of standard assessment tools, individual functional skills, determining treatment needs, developing individualized treatment plans, developing crisis prevention plans, and directing provision of treatment services. </li>
<li>Assess, develop, and direct individual mental health, functional skills, and behavioral symptoms using various standard assessment tools and customized individual treatment plans.</li>
</ul>
Licensed Duties 
<ul>
<li>Act as a lead clinician, providing clinical consultation and assistance to interns and other staff members, including acting as a lead clinician in specific treatment areas requiring advanced training or expertise. </li>
<li>Review and evaluate treatment plans and therapeutic techniques of other staff. </li>
<li>Analyze individuals' symptoms and advice less experienced staff on appropriate treatment, changes in the treatment plan, and/or diagnosis. </li>
<li>May assist in the supervision of student interns and volunteers. </li>
<li>May assist with clinical supervision for mental health professionals. </li>
<li>Coordinate treatment or other educational and consultative services with community agencies and programs. </li>
<li>Provide mental health and/or substance use disorders education and training to other staff, outside professionals, and the community.</li>

<li>Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation in accordance with Federal, State, County, and treatment program requirements under the direction of the clinical supervisor. </li>

Under the direction of professional nursing staff, provides direct patient care. He/she will practice and adhere to the guidelines specified in the UMMC Professional Nurse Job Charter.  Independently provides and coordinates care provided to patients within a clinical specialty.  Serves as a fully effective and participative member of the multidisciplinary patient care services team.  Demonstrates and models the full range of nursing professional practice in both care provided and in participation in development of strategies to improve patient outcomes, satisfaction with service and cost effectiveness at the unit level.  Is accountable to patients and families for the processes and outcomes of care during an episode of care.  Is accountable to peers for the advancement of group practice on the unit, and to the nurse manager for the totality of work performance. </li>

Qualifications
Education and Experience
<ul>
<li>Competent evaluation with successful passing of probation; current on all mandatory classes/training.</li>
<li>Licensure as a Registered Nurse in the state of Maryland, or eligible to practice due to Compact state agreements outlined through the MD Board of Nursing, is required.</li>
<li> Maintenance of 10 contact hours of education/year.</li>
<li>Member of a professional organization.</li>
<li>Recent applicable clinical experience in a comparable setting.</li>
</ul>
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
<ul>
<li>Demonstrated ability to lead others, such as effectiveness as charge nurse, preceptor, or clinical resource.  Demonstrated effectiveness as a multidisciplinary team member.</li>
<li>Ability to learn and use computer systems in order to manage patient information.</li>
<li>Ability to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the patient population(s) served.  Ability to demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and ability to assess data reflective of the patient's requirements relative to his or her population-specific and age specific needs.   </li>
<li>Demonstrated/documented highly effective interpersonal and verbal and written communication skills.</li>

Patient Safety
<ul>
<li>Ensures patient safety in the performance of job functions and through participation in hospital, department or unit patient safety initiatives.</li>
<li>Takes action to correct observed risks to patient safety.</li>
<li>Reports adverse events and near misses to appropriate management authority.</li>
<li>Identifies possible risks in processes, procedures, devices and communicates the same to those in charge.</li>
