Purpose: The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at Santa Clara University is seeking a tenure-track assistant professor beginning fall 2024. Santa Clara University is a highly ranked Jesuit, Catholic university with an ACS-approved undergraduate program and is located in the Silicon Valley. The successful candidate is expected to demonstrate the ability to teach chemistry effectively to a diverse student body, establish an externally funded and productive undergraduate research program in computational &nbsp;chemistry, computational biochemistry, or cheminformatics (broadly defined), contribute to departmental research and teaching objectives, and participate in service-related activities. &nbsp;We encourage applications from scientists who will establish an active research program involving undergraduate students in predictive modeling, quantum chemistry, molecular simulations, machine learning, artificial intelligence, and/or big data analytics as applied to complex (bio)chemical problems. In silico approaches may be paired with wet lab approaches as well, but are not necessary.&nbsp;

Responsibilities Tenure track faculty at SCU are teaching scholars who are expected to balance teaching, research and service. This is an in-person position. More specifically, duties include but are not limited to:
TEACHING 1. Teach lower- and upper-division courses in the major and university core curriculum, as assigned by the chair and subdisciplinary expertise. &nbsp;SCU is on the quarter system and a typical load is two courses per quarter. Teaching responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following: a. Conducting and appearing at all assigned class meetings in a timely and prepared manner that demonstrates a command of the discipline and skill in presenting it effectively. b. Assigning and evaluating written work, projects, and exams that align with course or core learning objectives and providing timely feedback to students. c. Holding weekly office hours at times reasonably convenient to students. d. Assigning and submitting student grades that are appropriate, accurate, and fair measures of student performance to the Office of the Registrar by the designated deadline. e. Administering numerical and narrative evaluations in each section for all courses.
 2. Develop and teach courses that contribute to curriculum development in the relevant degree program and/or the university core. &nbsp;Faculty teaching university core courses should follow an approved syllabus or work with the chair to design an appropriate syllabus for submission for approval from the relevant Faculty Core Curriculum Committee.
 3. Participate in assessment of student learning for courses in the department.
 4. Provide informed advice and mentoring to undergraduate students.
 5. Fulfill other instructional or academic duties as may be assigned by the Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences or by the Chair of the Chemistry and Biochemistry Department.
 RESEARCH 1. Setting up a laboratory to perform computational research that will engage undergraduates and lead to sustained publication of results in reputable, peer-reviewed journals. 2. Pursuing external funding for individual and departmental research and teaching objectives.
SERVICE 1. Provide effective service to the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, the College, the University and profession through contributions other than teaching and scholarship such as service on committees, participation in professional organizations and activities, leadership, and community service performed by virtue of professional expertise or association with the university as appropriate to rank and experience.

Are you a TS/SCI cleared Data Scientist that likes to perform research-level data science/analytics?
Come support a major program advancing the state of the art in mission-focused big data and predictive analytics. You will be delivering cutting edge data science capabilities to advance national security objectives, swiftly produce and analyze results, disseminate findings, and contribute to publications and presentations with actionable intelligence insights. While most work is conducted on-site at our client location in Bethesda, MD, we offer a flexible schedule and, occasionally, some tasks may be performed remotely. The percentage of remote work will vary based on client requirements/deliverables.
Fun stuff you will do:
<ul>
<li>Work closely with a tight-knit team of data scientists, as well as a larger team of software developers, network engineers, senior investigators, program managers, researchers, and data analysts to design, build, and optimize a Data Science platform to produce and analyze results, disseminate findings, and contribute to publications and presentations.&nbsp;</li>
</ul>

<li>Work on small projects analyzing a variety of big data covering national security, cyber security, business intelligence, online social media, human behavior and more. &nbsp;</li>
<li>Support multiple simultaneous projects and take open-ended or high-level guidance, independently and collaboratively make discoveries that are mission-relevant, and package and deliver the findings to a non-technical audience.</li>
<li>Bring your mix of intellectual curiosity, quantitative acumen, and customer-focus to identify novel sources of data across a range of fields, to improve the performance of predictive algorithms, and to encourage user adoption of high-end data analytics platforms in partnership with a highly qualified, highly motivated team.</li>
<li>Leverage your strong background in research design, exploratory analysis, quantitative methods, user interface application design, and experience with customer outreach and engagement&nbsp;</li>

To be successful in this role you need the following (required):
<ul>
<li>B.S. Degree in a quantitative or analytical field such as Computer Science, Mathematics, Economics, Statistics, Engineering, Physics, or Computational Social Science; or Master’s degree or equivalent graduate degree including certificate-based advanced training courses</li>
<li>4+ years of experience in data science, analytics, or quantitative intelligence analysis, and demonstrating progressive technical development and outcomes. 2+ years of experience required with a Master’s</li>
<li>Must have an active TS/SCI clearance and must be able to obtain and maintain a Polygraph</li>
<li>Proficiency in one or more scripting languages such as R or Python</li>
<li>Experience working with a hybrid team of analyst, engineers, and developers to conduct research, and build and deploy complex, but easy-to-use algorithms and analytical platforms</li>
<li>Previous experience performing Data Science or Research in data analytics or big data.</li>
<li>Track record of active learning and creative problem solving</li>
<li>Ability to analyze and assess software development or data acquisition requirements and determine optimum, cost-effective solutions.</li>
<li>Familiarity using git, svn, JIRA, or other version control technologies</li>
</ul>
You will wow us even more if you have some of these skills:

<li>A significant share of your data analytics experience in direct support of military or intelligence community customers, demonstrating progressive technical development and mission-focused outcomes.</li>
<li>Significant experience dealing with at least two of the following data classes: open source, publicly available information (PAI); forensic media (i.e. DOMEX); measurement and signatures intelligence (MASINT); or cybersecurity and cyber forensics</li>
<li>Experience with information retrieval and search, e.g. Structured Query Language (SQL), and/or Elastic Stack (Elasticsearch and Kibana)</li>
<li>Deployment of data science applications (e.g. Streamlit) using Docker, Kubernetes, and/or OpenShift.</li>
<li>Experience with Knowledge Graphs and KG tech such as neo4j or graph ML.</li>
<li>Experience developing predictive algorithms, image classifiers, object detectors, and others.</li>
<li>Familiarity with social network analysis, supply chain analysis, forensic accounting, pattern of life, natural language processing, social media analysis, classification algorithms, and/or image processing.</li>
<li>Experience blending analytical methodologies and leveraging existing COTS/GOTS/OS tools in an unconventional manner.</li>
<li>Familiarity utilizing virtualization and distributed field systems, such as virtual environments and Hadoop (or similar distributed file systems) in development and deployment environments.</li>
<li>Experience with Amazon Web Services (AWS/C2S)</li>
<li>Familiarity with hardware platforms, e.g., CPUs, GPUs, FPGAs, etc.</li>
