Summary:
Utilizes radiopharmaceuticals and related instruments to measure the concentration in various organ systems for the diagnosis and treatment of specific pathological disorders.
This position mandates that this technologist be credentialed as a Nuclear Medicine Technologist. In addition, this position will be split between Danbury Hospital, Danbury Hospital Medical Arts Center (DHMAC), and New Milford Hospital.
Responsibilities:
1. Performs all Nuclear Medicine and PET/CT procedures including general and cardiac imaging procedures, wet lab procedures and computer analysis uses proper and efficient patient positioning and imaging. Communicates with radiologists and fellow technologists Performs all Nuclear Medicine and PET/CT procedures and accurately calculates results.
2. Patient Care/Safety and Communication Criteria A: Screens patient for contraindications to exam, checks for special instructions and correct examination. Patient Care/Safety and Communication Criteria B: Pleasantly greets patients, introduces self to patient, and properly identifies patient. Patient Care/Safety and Communication Criteria C: Explains procedure to patient. Patient Care/Safety and Communication Criteria D: Properly monitors patient throughout procedure and provide efficient, compassionate patient care. 3. Performs daily QC of all equipment and reports negative findings to supervisor or RSO. Completes daily, weekly, quarterly, and yearly equipment QA and QC procedures. Notifies vendor of any equipment problems and notifies supervisor of service calls and repairs. 4. Radiopharmaceutical order, receipt, preparation, administration, and handling; Stock and Inventory Properly receives, prepares and documents radiopharmaceutical information. Radiopharmaceutical receipt, preparation, administration, and handling. Administers and documents radiopharmaceutical information. Radiopharmaceutical receipt, preparation, administration, and handling. Maintains appropriate inventory of supplies of drugs and radiopharmaceuticals. Completes allyï¿½s clerical records. Documents exam information record logs and completes patient dose log. Performs office procedures in absence of clerical support. 6. Attends staff meetings, in-service programs and orients new staff on request. Maintains CPR, RTN or CNMT Certification Maintains appropriate level of CE credits for ARRT and ACR Nuclear Medicine Certification 7. Aids in maintaining a clean and contamination-free department. Performs weekly wipe tests. Performs monthly Environmental Rounds.
 8. Abides by all NRC, DPH, DEEP, and TJC hospital and department rules and regulations Hospital Adheres to ALARA and radiation safety rules &amp; regulations. 9. Performs other duties as assigned. 10. Fulfills all compliance responsibilities related to the position.

Primary Responsibilities:

<li>Perform routine and specialized nuclear medicine procedures and examinations for radiological diagnosis</li>

<li>Administer radio-pharmaceuticals and medications for patient imaging and therapeutic procedures</li>

<li>Operate computed tomography (CT) scanners that are used in conjunction with nuclear medicine procedures (PET technologists only)</li>

<li>Provide images, data analysis and patient information for diagnostic interpretation or therapeutic procedures</li>

<li>Process data and enhancing digital images using advanced computer technology</li>
\n
<li>Evaluate images to determine the technical quality and calibration of instrumentation</li>

<li>Evaluate new protocols</li>

<li>Assists in the completion of the accreditation process for American College of Radiology (ACR) every 3 years</li>

Responsibilities

<li>Performs quality controls on equipment used each day, and performs and processes a wide range of clinical nuclear medicine studies including PET/CT, general Nuclear Medicine, and cardiac imaging</li>
<li>Prepares and administers radioactive substances according to guidelines and protocols, set by the Nuclear Medicine Department, the hospital Radiation Safety Department, and other requirements established by has the NRC and NHPP</li>
<li>Maintains familiarity with the requirements for each test and is able to assess the condition of the patient, their ability to undergo the procedure, compliance to preparation instructions, and medication conflicts</li>
<li>Evaluates the quality of images taken and additional images when necessary</li>
<li>Performs related clerical duties such as sending images to PACS, archiving images, and case editing of computer requests and reports</li>
<li>Sets up radiographic suites and ensures that sterile supplies, contrast materials, catheters, and other required equipment/supplies are present and available</li>
<li>Prepares and administers contrast material orally, by enema, or under close supervision of radiologists, intravenously but not independently; as required by procedure or patient’s condition, monitors vital signs (blood pressure and heart rate), and reports any significant changes to a radiologist</li>
<li>Lifts, positions, pushes, and transfers patients, supplies, and/or equipment as needed</li>
<li>Performs related clerical duties such as sending images to PACS, archiving images, and case editing of computer requests and reports</li>
<li>As required, maintains records and enters patient information into the computer through the use of the Radiology Veterans Information Systems and Technology Architecture (VISTA) package</li>

Qualifications

Essential Skills
<ul>
<li>Completion of an accredited School of Nuclear Medicine Technology Program.</li>
<li>Registration with the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB) and/or the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) (CT) or NMTCB (CT).</li>
<li>Experience in performing SPECT/CT and PET/CT studies, preferably in a research setting.</li>
<li>Ability to perform instrumentation and quality control, with knowledge of radiation safety.</li>
<li>Effective communication skills to collaborate within multi-disciplinary team settings.</li>
<li>Self-motivated, results-oriented, and detail-oriented.</li>
</ul>
Additional Skills &amp; Qualifications
<ul>
<li>Experience working with patients affected by neurological disorders, such as Parkinson’s Disease and Alzheimer’s Disease.</li>
<li>Experience working with Investigational New Drug (IND) PET research agents.</li>
<li>Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.</li>
<li>Proven track record of producing high-quality research imaging with minimal supervision.</li>
<li>Solid understanding of clinical research, GCP, GDP, and other regulations.</li>
<li>Strong leadership, management, and training skills.</li>
</ul>
