Job Summary and Qualifications
<ul>
<li>Perform detailed fetal anatomic exams, fetal echocardiography, Doppler studies, biophysical profiles, nuchal translucency exams, 3D/4D imaging studies, and gynecological exams, including transabdominal and transvaginal procedures.</li>
<li>Assist Maternal-Fetal Medicine physicians with invasive procedures; including amniocentesis, fetal intrauterine transfusion, amnio-reduction, sonohysterography, and other invasive procedures as indicated.</li>
<li>Prepare patients; collect relevant clinical information for completion of accurate procedures.</li>
<li>Demonstrate effective communication with maternal-fetal medicine specialists, to include concise and organized case presentation.</li>
<li>Perform patient care and daily tasks with a team approach. Interact with administrative staff, nursing staff, genetic counselors and maternal-fetal medicine specialists in a manner that promotes continuity of patient care.</li>
<li>Render patient care in a professional, courteous, and compassionate manner; use National Patient Safety Goals at all times.</li>
<li>Participate in maintenance of AIUM accreditation.</li>
<li>Flexibly rotate through all HCA Market Perinatal Centers as needed to maintain staffing levels that accommodate patient volumes.</li>
<li>Participate in Perinatal Center quality assurance program by performing audits of ultrasound&nbsp;studies on a quarterly basis as assigned.</li>
<li>Attend and participate in mandatory departmental meetings. Attend and participate in&nbsp;departmental conference calls as needed.</li>
<li>Follow HIPAA policies. Maintain strict confidentiality regarding employees and patients.</li>
<li>Prepare, utilize, and monitor ultrasound equipment. Recognize significant diagnostic information in order to maintain proper functionality.</li>
<li>Perform proper high-level disinfection of endovaginal probes using Trophon systems. Maintain daily quality control according to infection control requirements.</li>
<li>Perform all necessary computer operations, including reporting and billing functions (Viewpoint, PACS, Meditech, and HPF).</li>
<li>Maintain a clean work area by following infection control protocols, sterile techniques, and proper&nbsp;environment of care standards</li>
<li>Maintain supplies for all examinations. Assist with annual supply inventory.</li>
<li>Pursues own professional growth and development. Maintains CEU requirements for clinical role</li>

EXPERIENCE

EDUCATION

POSITION SUMMARY:
A Sonographer is a diagnostic ultrasound professional who is qualified by professional credentialing, academic, and clinical experience to provide diagnostic patient care services using ultrasound and related diagnostic procedures. The scope of practice of the diagnostic medical sonographer includes those procedures, acts, and processes permitted by law, for which the individual has received education and clinical experience. This person must demonstrate competency and has completed the appropriate ARDMS certification(s) which is the standard of practice in ultrasound.
Participates in providing patient specific care standards as directed, and follows service excellence standards to ensure high levels of patient satisfaction.
ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Technical Responsibilities

<li>Demonstrates expertise in providing patient care by identifying correct patient identification and that the requested procedure correlates with the patient’s clinical history; utilizing appropriate interviewing and assessment skills to obtain relevant information.</li>
<li>Uses interviewing techniques to gather relevant information from the patient or patient’s representative along with the medical records to accurately reveal the health status and medical history.</li>

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

This employee is responsible for the independent operation of diagnostic medical equipment to expose various OB/GYN conditions, and for performing and communicating results of diagnostic examinations using sonography. Sonography or&nbsp;ultrasonography is the use of sound waves to generate an image for assessment and diagnosis. This position will specialize in perinatal sonography. Ultrasound examinations include a variety of conditions ranging from routine OB/GYN to high risk obstetrical scans to include but not limited to, nuchal translucency, fetal anatomy survey, Doppler studies, biophysical profile, fetal echocardiograms and endo vaginal scans. Experience also includes ability to perform guidance for amniocentesis, chronic villus sampling, and other procedures commonly performed in a MFM program. This person must be able to work independently and as a part of a team as well have thorough knowledge of high risk conditions. The sonographer is responsible for daily operations of the sonographic program, patient schedule, equipment maintenance, report of equipment failures, and quality assessment (QA).Must be customer oriented to provide exceptional services to patients, physicians, visitors, and co-workers. Maintains awareness of patient privacy (HIPAA), confidentiality, and dignity at all times.
Must be able to demonstrate understanding of national patient safety initiatives by strict compliance to all safety protocols and procedures as required by both HCA and St. David’s North Austin Medical Center.

This means it provides the highest level of care for pregnant and postpartum patients, especially those with serious or complex medical, surgical, or pregnancy-related conditions, including those at high risk for&nbsp;maternal morbidity or mortality. The center includes a&nbsp;95+ bed Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)&nbsp;with 30+ private rooms, 10+ rooms for very small babies, and 10+ beds for babies needing neurological care. It also has&nbsp;35+ labor, delivery, and recovery rooms, including Central Texas’ first&nbsp;low-intervention birthing suites&nbsp;with tubs. There are&nbsp;95+ postpartum beds,&nbsp;20+ antepartum beds, and&nbsp;Cesarean section surgical suites.
