Job DescriptionAt Mahaska Health the primary role of a licensed Occupational Therapist is to evaluate, examine, treat and monitor as well as provide an ongoing assessment of patients. Complete all necessary paperwork/reports; plans and develops new programs; maintains communication with patients; patient family, caregiver and physician/providers; presents in-services; assists in general management of the department; supervises therapy assistants and support staff; and other diverse duties as requested or required.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
<ul>
<li>Evaluate/assess the patient/client and determine a treatment plan using approved examination and evaluation procedures. Interpret evaluation findings and communicate the treatment plan to the patient/client, family, caregiver and care team. </li>
<li>Prepare necessary documentation including evaluations, daily notes, progress notes, updated plan of cares, discharge summaries and logs in a timely manner according to federal, state and facility-specific rules and regulations. </li>
<li>Consult with other members of the rehabilitation team to select treatment programs consistent with the needs and capabilities of the patient and to coordinate comprehensive services delivery. </li>
<li>Develop effective home programs to maintain and enhance patient performance in his/her environment. </li>
<li>Develop treatment protocols/procedures using evidence-based guidelines, patient-specific goals, timely documentation, and discharge recommendations. </li>
<li>Develop and initiate referrals from licensed healthcare professionals. Respond in a timely manner to referrals. Develop effective rapport with referring healthcare practitioners. </li>
<li>Present a positive service-oriented approach with patients, family, caregivers, facility staff, and co-workers at all times. </li>
<li>Monitor patient progress and modify the treatment plan and procedures as appropriate. Review the patient treatment program to maintain effective and efficient quality service. </li>
<li>Train therapists in skills and techniques required for participation in activities and evaluate therapists’ functional progress. </li>
<li> Assist with orientation of new staff, volunteers, and students. </li>
<li>Supervise occupational therapy assistants in accordance with federal and state regulations. </li>
<li>Assist with equipment maintenance and monitor supply inventory. </li>
<li>Demonstrate ongoing commitment to reducing costs and improving productivity in the rehabilitation department. </li>
<li>Demonstrate the ability to handle changing schedule of patients/clients. </li>
<li>Maintain positive working relationship with the healthcare team, patient/client, family and caregiver. </li>
<li>Assist with Quality Assurance reports and records. Complete facility reports as required. </li>
<li> Understand and comply with all hospital policies and procedures, including but not limited to, universal precautions, safety, risk, and emergency. </li>
<li>Conduct self in accordance with Mahaska Health Partnership's confidentiality policy; ensuring to follow all MHP training guidelines in accordance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996.</li>
<li>Maintain a cooperative working relationship with employees, visitors, medical staff, and patients, keeping in mind the person’s unique needs within their age category (refer to Mahaska Health’s Age Specific Standards of Care Policy).</li>
<li>Ability to deal with confidential information.</li>
<li>Must be able to perform the physical demands of the job.</li>
<li>Maintains regular and reliable attendance. Attend meetings, as requested.</li>
<li>All other duties as assigned or requested.</li>

JOB REQUIREMENTS:
<ul>
<li>Bachelor’s (BA., BS.), Master’s (MA., MS.) or Doctorate degree in Occupational Therapy (OTD).</li>
<li>Occupational Therapy board certification and licensure according to state regulations. </li>
<li>Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. </li>
<li> Ability to write simple correspondence. </li>
<li>Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one settings to patients, family, caregivers, facility staff, and other employees of the organization. </li>
<li>Ability to relate positively, professionally, and cooperatively with others. </li>
<li>Required to be current in BLS (Basic Life Support) by the standards of the American Heart Association.</li>
<li>Will be required to show proof of having completed Mandatory Reporter course at the time of hire or attend within 6 months of the start date.</li>
<li>Must adhere to all training requirements as mandated by Federal, State, and Professional licensure and regulatory standards.</li>
<li>Understand and comply with the requirements of MHP’s Compliance Program, including, but not limited to the Code of Conduct, the Compliance Policy, all supporting policies for compliance, and compliance plans affecting specific duties and responsibilities.</li>
<li>Participate in all education and training programs regarding compliance as required by Practice policy and as requested by the supervisor.</li>
<li>Consistently support the Compliance Program through personal example; the provision of day-to-day instruction and correction to employees regarding compliance-related issues; application of appropriate discipline as required for compliance violations; and ongoing monitoring of activities and work product in areas of responsibility with respect to compliance-related issues.</li>
