Responsibilities
Duties:
<ul>
<li>Knowledgeable of special requirements when imaging infants and children, including location of pediatric immobilizers, weight based administration of radiopharmaceuticals, and any other adjustments in technique, positioning or procedure necessary to obtain a quality exam.</li>
<li>The technologist must keep parents/legal guardians informed at all times on the condition of minors and alleviate any fears.</li>
<li>Produces high quality diagnostic medical images for interpretation and to Radiologist specification.</li>
<li>Ability to prepare radio-pharmaceutical aseptically and inject such radio-pharmaceutical as necessary for the requested study.</li>
<li>Responsible for thoroughly explaining all procedures to each patient before examination. Employs all necessary patient care techniques to ensure patient safety and well being.</li>
<li>Schedules patients for nuclear medicine studies. Gives preparation instructions. Correlates with Cardiologists as required.</li>

Qualifications
Purpose &amp; Scope:
Performs those duties directly involved with a variety of technical procedures, administering radio-pharmaceutical for the purpose of detecting pathology, evaluating function, or as a means of therapy. MEC approval: 7/11/2016
Education:
An associate degree in radiological procedure is preferred.
Experience:

POSITION SUMMARY This position performs prescribed procedures as directed by following department/facility policies, procedures and protocols. This position ensures optimal care/treatment to patient population. CORE FUNCTIONS 1. Performs nuclear medicine procedures by following and verifying referring providers’ orders. Job Details:

<li>Competently performs basic to intermediate nuclear medicine diagnostic and therapeutic procedures including general and cardiac.</li>
<li>Reviews patient's medical record to Obtain necessary clinical information including patient history. lab results, and physician orders. obtains medical hustory from patients, and compares requisitions to physicians' orders to ensure exam accuracy,</li>
<li>Prepares and administers radiopharmaceuticals and procedural adjunctive medication by proper route per clinician prescription and according to approved exam parameters.</li>
<li>Competently performs venipuncture and placement of peripheral IV catheters lor medication administration. Accesses other vascular access devices, as determined by department training and need. Follows correct procedures for handling radioactive materials.</li>
<li>Understands and implements ALARA measures, Maintains accurate records Of pharmaceutical doses.</li>
<li>Relays pertinent patient history information to appropriate and , images as directed and accurately identifies and labels images identifying patient, medical record unit (MRU) number, and location or position of scan on all images.</li>
<li>Maintains records in accordance with various regulatory agencies and enters patient and study information into the radiology information system, and documents billing codes of procedures performed to ensure accurate patient charges,</li>
<li>Identifies equipment performance issues and performs equipment quality assurance tests and calibration procedures. Reports malfunctioning equipment to the appropriate staff.</li>
<li>Performs various patient positioning and transporting duties, which require lifting and pulling. while utilizing proper technique,</li>
<li>Must be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide Care appropriate to the age 01 the patents served. Summary The Nuclear Medicine Technologist (NMT) is a member of the nuclear medicine departments operational staff. The technologist is responsible for performing nuclear medicine tests, such as PET scans, to aid in the diagnosis and treatment of neurology patients. The perfect candidate must be able to successfully navigate the demands of neurology PET imaging. The technologist is licensed in all scopes of practice as defined by the State of California Radiologic Health branch and performs routine to complex diagnostic and therapeutic nuclear medicine procedures using radiopharmaceutical materials. The technologist must be able to work safely in an outpatient care setting and be able to interact accordingly with other patient care departments. <li>Nuclear Medicine Technologists are responsible for robustly knowing the NMT Technologist scope of practice and working within it. </li>
