Job Summary and Qualifications 
Our Nuclear Medicine Technologists perform tests for diagnosis and medical research. They prepare and give small doses of radioactive drugs (radiopharmaceuticals) to patients, then use high-level imaging equipment to record images of the radioactive material in the body. They collaborate with doctors, medical physicists, nuclear pharmacists, nurses and administrative staff to provide the best level of care. <li>Nuclear Medicine Technologist completes nuclear medicine procedures including routine procedures and nuclear medicine therapies. &nbsp;&nbsp;</li>
<li>The Nuclear Medicine Technologists participate in Performance Improvement and Quality Improvement activities. &nbsp;</li>

What qualifications you will need:&nbsp;

<li>Graduate from an accredited program in Radiologic Technology. &nbsp;</li>
<li>Two-year program or four-year BA program in Radiology Technology followed by training from an accredited Nuclear Medicine Program.&nbsp;&nbsp;</li>
<li>(ARRT NM) or training from an accredited school in Nuclear Medicine.&nbsp;</li>
<li>American Registry of Radiology Technology (ARRT NM) or registry eligible with completion of examination within 9 months of hire and/or certification as a Nuclear Medicine Technologist (NMTB).&nbsp;&nbsp;</li>
<li>Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) required within 30 days of start date.&nbsp;</li>
<li>Minimum of one-year hospital department experience in Nuclear Medicine.&nbsp;</li>
<li>Able to accurately complete sonography requisitions for the examinations performed. &nbsp;</li>
<li>Experience with Radiology filing systems to obtain previous examination reports.&nbsp;</li>
<li>Able to correctly and safely operate nuclear medicine equipment following orientation period to the department. Routine use of office equipment (phone, fax, pagers).&nbsp;</li>
<li>Able to communicate effectively with all patients, physicians, nurses and other medical personnel. &nbsp;</li>
<li>Able to handle periods of intensity with calm. &nbsp;</li>
<li>Able to work in stressful situations while maintaining composure and perform required Nuclear Medicine duties regardless of the patient’s condition&nbsp;</li>

Job Summary for the Nuclear Medicine Technologist
The Nuclear Medicine Technologist provides services using radionuclides to assist in the diagnosis or treatment of disease. The technologist demonstrates knowledge of the human structure and functions, patient care, positioning, principles of nuclear medicine, radiation protection and specialized techniques. The images are produced and in accordance with the ARRT and CNMT standards. Furthermore, the technologist will perform procedures and QC Test within the guideline set by the Bureau of Radiation Control, South Austin Hospital’s Policies and Procedures Manual and the Radioactive Materials License (RAML). Maintains professional judgment and conduct that is complimentary of the ARRT Code of Ethics and St. David’s Healthcare Values.
Responsibilities of the Nuclear Medicine Technologist
<ul>
<li>Perform Nuclear Medicine exams in accordance with SDMC Medical Imaging protocols.</li>
<li>Administer prescribed pharmaceutical grade radioactive materials to patients as outlined by state/federal regulations.</li>
<li>Demonstrate appropriate radioactive materials safety measures for self, other staff and patients as outlined by state/federal regulations.</li>
<li>Explain procedures to patients prior to exam.</li>
<li>Demonstrate proficiency with equipment used for NM exams (Spect Cameras, and PACS).</li>
<li>Ensure availability of physician for procedures requiring the administration of medications and supervision.</li>
<li>Perform duties to maintain department functions such as QC checks.</li>
<li>Maintain required documentation regarding radioactive materials, both upon receipt and prior to administration.</li>
<li>Perform surveys and document findings of work area, patient rooms, and radioactive waste storage area at appropriately scheduled intervals.</li>
<li>Adhere to policies related to Standard Precautions, Infection Control, and Radiation Safety guidelines as described by TDHS and Joint Commission.</li>
<li>Work with Radiation Safety Officer in maintaining quality control and quality assurance guidelines to ensure all regulatory standards are met, i.e., Texas Dept. of Health and Bureau of Radiation Control.</li>

EDUCATION:

EXPERIENCE:

Job Summary and Qualifications

Nuclear Medicine Technologist - PRN/Per Diem
We are currently seeking a Nuclear Medicine Technologist on a PRN/per diem/as-needed basis. As a Nuclear Medicine Technologist, you will perform diagnostic and therapeutic technical procedures utilizing radiopharmaceuticals in a careful, compassionate and respectful manner. Your tasks and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

<li>Use radioactive isotopes to perform organ and body scans</li>
<li>Prepare radioactive isotopes for administration to patients in accordance with physicians' orders and record dosages accordingly</li>
<li>Perform diagnostic studies on patients using scanners or scintillation cameras to detect radiation emitted and produce images of organs on photographic film</li>
<li>Position patients and adjust immobilization devices</li>
<li>Compassionately explain procedures to patients and address any concerns</li>
<li>Monitor, record and communicate utilizing computerized documentation</li>
<li>May assist with transporting patients as needed</li>

Qualifications:

<li>Associate Degree</li>
<li>Graduate of an accredited and AMA-approved Nuclear Medicine Technology training program</li>
