General Summary:
Under the supervision of a Sergeant or other command officer, patrols the County in order to enforce the laws, investigate criminal activities, police accident scenes, respond to domestic and other disputes, and answers requests for a variety of services. Good Moral Character: Possess a good moral character as determined by a favorable comprehensive background investigation covering school and employment records, home environment, and personal traits and integrity. Employment Qualifications:
Education: High School graduation or equivalent. Prefer advanced coursework in police administration, criminal justice, or related areas.
Experience: Prefer some related experience in a reserve, cadet or other capacity. Some assignments may require prior experience as a Deputy Sheriff.
Other Requirements: Must be certified or currently certifiable as a law enforcement officer following successful completion of the training requirements established by the Michigan Commission on Law Enforcement Standards. Must meet all M.C.O.L.E.S. employment standards.

Detectives are responsible for the prevention, detection, investigation, and prosecution of criminal violations related to crimes against persons and property in the City of Fredericksburg. Detectives may be assigned to investigate any type of crime, but assignments are typically made based upon the detective's training and experience. Detectives may be required to specialize in particular areas including, but not limited to: sex offenses, domestic violence, fraud, property crimes, major felonies and forensics. Part-time Detectives at the Fredericksburg Police Department work a flexible schedule approved by the Division Commander.&nbsp; This position may also require work outside the normal schedule to complete the mission.&nbsp; This part-time position requires a total of 24 hours of work commitment per week, for a total of 48 hours in a two-week work cycle. This is an entry level sworn position performing responsible and visible work in law enforcement to preserve the peace, protect persons and property in the city, and enforce federal and state laws, and city ordinances and by-laws. This is a full-time, 40 hour per week position. Salary range is $28.23 to $40.83. Position is open until filled.
ACCOUNTABILITY: Works under the general supervision of a First Line or Mid-Level Supervisory Officer. Work is performed in accordance with extensive established rules, regulation, and instructions from superior officers who review work through reports, conferences, and observation of efficiency and effectiveness of completed work.

INVESTIGATIVE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

<li>Conduct thorough investigations of all offenses and incidents within the area of assignment as assigned. Collect evidence and record data which will aid in the identification, apprehension, and prosecution of offenders, as well as the recovering of property.</li>
<li>Maintain proficiency in latent fingerprint identification and recovery, photography, and investigative techniques such as interview and interrogation methods and procedures.</li>
<li>Ensure the proper packaging, marking and securing of all evidence and property coming into police custody.</li>
<li>Prepare affidavits, warrants and court complaints as necessary to the investigation.</li>
<li>Perform other duties as assigned by proper authority.</li>

Individuals selected as entry level police officers are not required to have all of the training, or to have developed all of the skills necessary to perform the functions of the position immediately upon selection. Many of the skills and abilities will be learned over the probationary period of employment, while other capabilities will be assessed during the hiring process.
In order to function independently as a police officer, personnel shall be required to successfully develop the following knowledge, skills and abilities as part of the first year of probationary employment.

 EDUCATION/LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: High school diploma or GED. Additional course work in law enforcement, criminal justice, sociology or related field, or military duty in a closely related specialty or Associates degree in Criminal Justice, Law Enforcement or related field preferred. Certified in New Hampshire by Police Standards and Training as Police Officer upon appointment or within six months of appointment. Valid motor vehicle operator’s license. Completion of college courses, military experience, or significant work experience involving interaction with the public and the development of social/people skills is preferred.
OTHER CONSIDERATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:
The hiring process for this position will consist of a review of the applications and resumes, a written test, in person interview, a thorough background investigation, polygraph examination, psychological screening, a medical examination with drug screening and a physical fitness test. The Oakland Housing Authority’s Police Officers’ authority comes from Section 830.31(d) of the California Penal Code. The Department is currently POST certified, and one of twenty nationally accredited agencies in California through CALEA. SELECTION
All applications will be carefully reviewed. The selection process will include a physical ability test, an oral interview and a personal history review. Successful applicants will be placed on a list of qualifiers. Based on position on the list, applicants will complete a polygraph or Computer Voice Stress Analysis (CVSA) Examination and intensive background investigation. Successful candidates will be scheduled for an interview with the Department Director. Those passing will be given a conditional job offer and scheduled for a medical and psychological examination. The entire process should be completed within 90 days. Note: applicants currently enrolled in police academies may substitute the basic academy entry-level examination and successful completion of the academy’s physical ability program for the written &amp; physical ability portions. 
The physical ability performance test is mandatory and only given to those applicants who are applying for the position of police officer. The test has been developed by POST as a standard to measure physical characteristics of strength, endurance, and the agility necessary to perform job-related functions of a police officer. The applicant must pass all parts of the test within the allotted time period. The test shall be scored as pass or fail.
 1. Elements of the physical ability performance test are:
<ol>
<li>Obstacle Course/Agility Run: Run a 99-yard obstacle course consisting of several sharp turns, a number of curb-height obstacles, and a 34-inch-high obstacle that must be vaulted.</li>
<li>Body Drag: Life and drag a 165-pound lifelike dummy 32 feet.</li>
<li>Solid Fence Climb: Run 5 yards to a 6-foot solid fence, climb over fence, and continue running another 25 yards.</li>
<li>500 Yard Run: Run 500 yards</li>
</ol>

3. OHAPD will accept similar physical ability tests proctored by other law enforcement agencies that have been taken within the last six months from application.
