Position Summary: A Reporter delivers local print and digital content to the reader, providing coverage of stories within the community they serve, which involves collecting information, interviewing sources, developing relationships, and writing accurate, intelligent, and engaging stories. Duties include writing articles for a monthly newspaper, generating digital content for the website and daily newsletter, and developing story ideas for content through their reporting. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

STANDARD OF PERFORMANCE:

In this role, teachers will be responsible for conducting performance evaluations for Lead Teacher Aides and Paraprofessionals under their supervision. The teacher ensures that the events of the school day and the staff interaction with the students are geared to promote the physical, social, behavioral, academic, and emotional development of the students of the Hope School Learning Center. The teacher shall develop assessment based IEP goals/objectives and education routines that provide a functional age appropriate curriculum for the students. The teacher shall prepare lesson plans based upon the student’s IEP goals and objectives and shall provide both educational instruction to students and guidance/direction to classroom staff at the grade level assigned to teach on the provision of educational instruction to students.
 
 
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
1. Prepares assessments and present levels of performance for IEP meetings and participates in development of appropriate IEP goals for youth.
2. Develops and implements educational activities and programs in accordance with IEP goals.
3. Ensures that educational activates and programs are functional and age appropriate to promote achievement of each student’s IEP goals.
4. Trains and directs the work of the classroom Lead Teacher Aides and Paraprofessionals.
5. Evaluates Lead Teacher in accordance with essential function defined in their job descriptions.
6. Plans daily and weekly schedules for each youth.
7. Completes required ISBE documentation accurately and promptly, such as alternate assessments and progress reports.
8. Maintain current classroom information book, student program books, lesson plans, student’s files, and emergency packets and posts class scheduled.
9. Ensures Paraprofessionals complete data entry on appropriate forms for program goals, behavioral health, and nursing in a timely manner (IEP goals, GERs, TLOGS and data sheets.).
10. Collects and analyzes IEP goal data of youth and evaluates need to change Youth’s IEP goals.
11. Follows proper channels of communication defined in the education department’s organization chart and that of The Hope Institute for Children and Families.

Since 1999, we have used the power of journalism to engage the public about the perils of one of the most existential threats we face. We seek to document the often unequal impacts of climate change on communities in the United States and globally — as well as to show the promise of equitable climate solutions. Over the past four years, Grist has scaled from a Seattle-based team of 20-25 to a nationally distributed organization of ~60.

Position Overview
We are seeking a reporter to cover climate change and how it is affecting Utah. The ideal candidate will examine impacts of global warming on various communities and sectors throughout the state and explore how responses to the warming climate from federal, state and local governments are changing the everyday lives of Utahns. You’ll be based at The Salt Lake Tribune in Salt Lake City, Utah. 
Utah is a fascinating lens through which to examine the climate crisis. Rising temperatures and shifting precipitation patterns are threatening the state’s waterbodies and ecosystems. The Great Salt Lake is drying up and scattering toxic dust into the air, while the Colorado River and its tributaries are seeing their flows decrease. Landscapes that support a robust recreation and tourism industry, from the desert canyons of Zion National Park to the ski mountains around Park City, are increasingly dealing with extreme weather and changing federal policies. Meanwhile, Utah is one of the fastest-growing states in the nation, with a booming population and an influx of companies like Meta and Amazon. The state has a legislature with deep roots in real estate that stands to gain from this boom, and the privatization of Utah lands. 
The right person for this job will be interested in also approaching this beat from a solutions lens: How are people working to address the problems caused by climate change? Can those solutions be scaled up to statewide or national levels? What are the drawbacks? We're also looking for someone who is always mindful of the equity issues that are often at the root of human-based climate stories. Solar, wind, and geothermal energy in Utah, for example, has grown significantly since 2020, with corresponding growth in clean technology jobs.
Through the Salt Lake Tribune’s partnership with Grist, this reporter will file daily news stories and enterprise and accountability reporting, and your stories will be republished by a statewide syndication network called the Utah News Collaborative. Your stories will also be periodically adapted for a national audience and republished on Grist. 
The annual base pay for this position is between $65,000-$75,000 depending on experience. This role is a two year-long position piloting a co-funded partnership between The Salt Lake Tribune and Grist.

Physical Requirements, Work Environment and Travel:

<li>Regularly required to sit for long periods of time; close eye work on computer screen; required to stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, bend and stoop; light to moderate lifting 15-30 pounds.</li>
<li>The worker is frequently subject to inside environmental conditions, which provide protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes, and is sometimes subject to adverse outside environmental conditions.</li>
