Ochsner is the leading clinical oncology program in the Gulf South Region, providing personalized and state-of-the-art care to more than 22,000 cancer patients in the past year. Over the last 5 years, Ochsner Health has invested more than $135M in facilities and technology across the Ochsner Cancer Institute reflecting our commitment to leading cancer care in the region and beyond. These projects have included a 115,000 ft2 expansion to the Gayle and Tom Benson Cancer Center, the new St Tammany Cancer Center in Covington, and the expansion of the Baton Rouge Cancer Center. In 2023 Ochsner Health partnered with MD Anderson Cancer Center bringing more treatment options and clinical trials local. Ochsner is currently seeking a qualified Medical Physicist to join their Radiation Oncology Team. The Radiation Oncology department has a patient load of approximately 1300 new patients per year at four facilities in southeast Louisiana. The department currently has 10 radiation oncologists, 3 medical physicists, and 4 dosimetrists. The department has five Varian linear accelerators, three GE CT simulators, Gamma Knife and a Elekta/Nucletron HDR unit. The department has a fully integrated Aria and Eclipse systems as well as Oncentra Brachytherapy, Variseed, and MiM Maestro systems. Duties include general clinical coverage, QA, and support for special procedures, including SRS/SBRT, HDR/LDR, and TBI/TSET.

Job Duties

<li>Participates in patient treatment planning.</li>
<li>Reviews all performance improvement records.</li>
<li>Assists with the preparation of special procedures, including radioactive implants, stereotactic radiosurgery and stereotactic body radiation therapy, total body and total skin irradiation.</li>
<li>Verifies that patient has received prescribed dose by performing electronic and paper chart QA checks of calculations and treatment plans on assigned patients under treatment.</li>
<li>Participates in QA program for radiation-producing machines by performing annual, monthly, weekly, and daily dose measurements, calibrations, and safety procedures.&nbsp; Assists in equipment maintenance and repair as needed.</li>
<li>Performs patient specific dose measurements required for determination of monitor units or verification of treatment (IMRT QA, in-vivo dosimetry, etc.).</li>
<li>Consults with dosimetrists, therapists, and staff as required.</li>
<li>Participates in activities for professional development, maintaining required clinical knowledge, technical skills and credentials/age specific competency.</li>

Overview
Serves as Medical Radiation Physicist in the Cancer Centers of Northern Arizona Healthcare's two cancer centers. Involved in both clinical and machine physics, serving as directed in the leadership, development, implementation and technical aspects of the Radiation Oncology programs. The Medical Radiation Physicist works under the direction of and is supervised by the Chief Medical Radiation Physicist, the Radiation Oncologist(s) and the Department Director performing physics service in accordance with the American College of Radiology Standards of practices as required by regulatory agencies and may work collaboratively with other department's medical physicists to address common programmatic needs. 
Responsibilities
Clinical* In conjunction with the Chief Medical Radiation Physicist and the Radiation Oncologist, assists with the physics needs for the Brachytherapy program; including High Dose Rate (HDR) and Low Dose Rate (seed implant). * Assists with oversight of the treatment planning program. * May direct Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy IMRT) treatment planning and program operations, as directed or delegated. * In collaboration with the Radiation Oncologist(s), assists with the Stereotactic RadioSurgery program (SRS) and directs the Stereotactic Brain Radiotherapy Program (SBRT). * Participates in the Cancer Center's quality assurance program. * May directs proficiency testing of radiation oncology equipment for acceptance and on a periodic basis. * Performs chart reviews and therapy calculations, dosimetry assistance and facilitates treatment plan development and reviews, as delegated.Administrative* Assists with the Radiation Safety Program in the cancer centers. * May supervise or work collaboratively with the Lead Dosimetrist, Staff Dosimetrists, Lead Radiation Therapist and Staff Therapists. * May coordinate or provide direction to the BioMedical Technologist assigned to Radiation Oncology. * Provides interface with the Arizona Department of Radiation Protection, maintains licensure for the facilities, and serves as primary liaison with other state and federal regulatory agencies for Radiation Oncology, as delegated or directed. * Coordinates, as directed, with the designated Radiation Safety Officer for Flagstaff Medical Center and Verde Valley Medical Center on radiation licensure, radiation exposure monitoring and reporting.Technical* Assists with Radiation Safety Compliance and reporting. * Competent in three dimensional treatment planning. * Competent in brachytherapy treatment planning, including HDR and seed implants. * Knowledge of calibration of Linear Accelerators and other radiation sources. * Expert in clinical dosimetry and treatment planning for external beams and implant sources, patient set-up and computerized treatment planning.Compliance/Safety* Responsible for reporting any safety-related incident in a timely fashion through the Midas/RDE tool; attends all safety-related training programs; performs work in a safe manner; monitors work environment for possible safety issues and ensures others are also performing work in a safe manner. * Stays current and complies with state and federal regulations/statutes and company policies that impact the employee's area of responsibility. * If required for the position, ensures all certifications and/or licenses are up-to-date and valid prior to expiration dates. * Completes all company mandatory modules and required job-specific training in the specified time frame.
