The COE designation gives Askia greater resources and capacity to serve and treat a higher level of psychiatric need in addition to serving and treating addiction recovery
PRIMARY GOALS OF ASKIA ACADEMY:
1. To help strengthen recovery and prevent relapse.
2. To help identify the life challenges, past and present, that can be addressed to ensure sustained recovery.
3. To introduce our residents to numerous resources to help address issues such as physical health, mental health, finances, housing, employment, and relationship challenges.
4. To improve long-term recovery by helping our residents to develop a continuing care plan to enable them to manage their addiction and sustain abstinence.

Our Services We offer men daily individual and group counseling, family stabilization, job preparation support, educational/vocational program referrals and peer-to-peer mentoring.
Summary/Objective:
Behavioral Health Specialists are a key component of the interdisciplinary team that provide support services for clients addicted to alcohol and other drugs during the first year of their recovery. The overall goal of the BHS is to monitor behaviors, care for and provide assistance to clients in early abstinence. BHS’s will perform functions efficiently and thoroughly to assure that the program runs smoothly and that the staff are supported during the admission process, day to day clinical activities and discharge. Essential Functions 1. ­­Relates to clients and colleagues in a compassionate, professional, and respectful manner as measured by observed interactions. 2. Assures safety and support to all clients admitted to The Dimock Center. 3. Able to assess, communicate effectively and maintain therapeutic boundaries through setting limits and enforcing structure and rules of the program in a respectful manner. 4. Supports all milieu staff in all aspects of the program including: safety checks, client and room searches, supporting client’s admission and discharge processes. 5. Participates in creating a welcoming and supportive environment for new clients in the program. 6. Recognizes the importance of individual and cultural differences that influence patient behavior and applies this understanding to the care of patients. 7. Participates in the patient admission process; provides explanation of Dimock paperwork and completes all necessary intake documentation. 8. Conduct property search of clients’ belongings on admission and discharge. 9. Observes and reports to Director clients who appear sick, agitated or depressed. 10. Uses negotiating skills to minimize and de-escalate potentially dangerous situations. 11. Supervises and supports clients as needed throughout the program day. 12. Assists new clients who enter the program with paperwork, orientation and settling in. 13. Attends to the overall operation and management of the living environment. 14. Ensures that the living space is neat and clean. 15. Establishes and maintains professional boundaries for clients to ensure client safety. 16. Runs the basic day-to-day functions of the program to ensure that the unit is clean, that the clients receive meals three times a day and assist clients with any special needs. 17. Attends and participates in all staff meetings and attend trainings. 18. Assists sick or disabled clients with personal needs when they are unable to perform these tasks by themselves. 19. Oversees Smoking Policy. 20. Ensures that the program environment is stable, clean, and orderly and conducive to healing and recovery. 21. Exemplifies recovery principles in order to show by example that recovery is possible and attainable. 22. Works with program staff to develop and support new programming. 23. Under the administrative supervision of the Program Director or designee, this at-will direct service position is responsible for providing psychosocial, rehabilitation, and recovery-oriented services for Turning Point members. This position also involves advocating for members in all areas of treatment and helping them apply for and receive services. Additional support in the areas of medication management, resource connection (e.g., housing resources, AOD, PCP, OP, etc.), counseling, and advocacy will be provided as needed. Involves providing after-hours, “on-call” coverage on a rotational basis based on program needs.

<li>Provides “on-the-spot” counseling that is both helpful to the clients and consistent with the philosophy of the program.</li>
<li>Drives on program business using personal vehicle for medication outreach, home visits, transporting clients to appointments/activities, community/county meetings/trainings, and MH court.</li>

QUALIFICATIONS:
A typical way of obtaining the knowledge, skills and abilities outlined above is through graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree in Social Work or related field; two (2) years of varied experience providing mental health services.

POSITION SUMMARY
The Mental Health Supervisor is a member of the multi-disciplinary treatment team and provides clinically appropriate services under the clinical direction of the corporate Director, Behavioral Health. The incumbent provides guidance, direction, training and clinical supervision to all Mental Health Professionals (MHPs), except for Psychiatrists, within the facility. Ensures that said staff are compliant with all applicable agency, facility and Wexford Health Sources (WHS) policies and procedures, corporate protocols and ethical and professional standards. Provides mental health screenings and assessments, clinical watches, conducts treatment groups and individual sessions, as well as other clinically related activities, reporting inmates’ reaction to treatment/rehabilitation program and recommendation continuation or change as needed. Utilizes electronic medical record system as applicable throughout the scope of duties and responsibilities.
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Provides direct supervision of site mental health staff including hiring, scheduling, assigning duties, evaluating performance, disciplining, investigating inmate grievances and discharging.
2. Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with New Mexico Corrections Department (NMCD) facility management officials.
3. Responds in a timely manner to requests for information or assistance. 
4. Serves as a resource to the Wexford Health Corporate Director, Behavioral Health relative to non-clinical aspects of behavioral health services at NMCD facilities.
5. Participates in Regional Team meetings and teleconferences as requested.
6. Ensures the Director of Operations, Corporate Director, Behavioral Health and applicable NMCD Administrative staff are apprised of all critical mental health-related incidents or developments at assigned facilities.
7. Attends Quality Improvement meetings and is a member as assigned or requested.
8. Collects data and generate reports as required or requested.
9. Ensures clinical and facility-based orientation of newly employed MHPs.
10. Ensures MHPs have a satisfactory understanding of all applicable ACA/NCCHC standards, Wexford Health Behavioral Health protocols and Wexford and NMCD policies and procedures.
11. Reviews the medical charts of inmates on each MHP’s caseload to assess the adequacy of treatment plans, progress notes and other documentation; provide remedial feedback and training as required.
12. Conducts in-service training for all MHPs regarding clinical issues of concern to Wexford and NMCD facility administrators or the MHPs themselves.
13. Provides guidance and direction to MHPs relative to Crisis Intervention Team training and leadership.
14. Assists MHPs in the development and operation of psychoeducational and psychotherapy groups.
15. Offers assistance and support to MHPs in their preparation for mental health monitoring visits, internal and external audits, and peer reviews.
16. Ensures MHPs develop and maintain effective and efficient mental health delivery record-keeping and data management systems.
17. Assists in the training of Wexford Health and NMCD non-clinical staff as requested or as necessary.
