Position Summary:
The Library Assistant performs support services in one or more library functions in the library or learning resource center of a Community College which provides library services to students, faculty, staff and citizens. These functions may include: circulation; periodicals processing; acquisitions processing; interlibrary loans; reserves; on-line copy cataloging; basic reference and readers’ advisory; and audio-visual equipment lending.
The position provides services to assist the library in its support of the College’s learning and instructional goals. The position may be required to provide coverage for the library at designated times in the absence of more senior positions.

Under the direction of the Librarian or Director of Library Services, the Library Assistantis accountable for providing useful and helpful services to the library and its patrons in support of the College’s learning mission through&nbsp;effective performance in these essential duties:

Job DescriptionDescriptionOverview New York Public Library is hiring Tutors for the NYPL After School program, which provides free, drop-in homework help and enrichment activities for school-age children across NYPL locations in Manhattan, the Bronx, and Staten Island.&nbsp; The 2025-2026 program term for NYPL After School will run from September 29, 2025 to June 18, 2026. Tutors are not scheduled to work during scheduled program breaks, including holiday closures and days when NYC Schools are not in session, as well as the summer months.&nbsp; Tutors work 16 hours per week, Monday-Thursday afternoons, with four hour shifts scheduled between approximately 2:00-7:00 PM, with some additional hours required for staff meetings and professional development.&nbsp; As the lead program staff for NYPL After School at each location, Tutors work in the public library to engage children ages 6-12 in group format academic support and enrichment activities during the busy after school hours. The program does not require enrollment and children are welcome to participate on a drop-in basis each day.&nbsp; Please note you must be able to arrive at the location by 2 PM on Monday-Thursday.
