ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Ensures all required authorizations and/or referrals are attached to patient appointments for that date of service.</li>
<li>Identifies and collects co-payments, co-insurances, and past-due account balances.</li>
<li>Explains financial requirements to the patient in response to patient questions on billing and insurance matters; refers questions regarding more complex insurance/benefits questions to the Practice Billing Department.</li>
<li>Evaluates patient financial status and establishes payment plans as needed based upon authority levels.</li>
<li>Accurately completes and interprets insurance and benefits verification. Notifies patients, designated family member(s), physicians, and/or supervisors of network insurance coverage issues that may result in coverage reduction.</li>
<li>Scans all new or updated patient information into the EMR system (including but not limited to photo ID, insurance cards, referrals, and patient paperwork).</li>
<li>Schedules follow-up appointments and notifies patient if service requires an authorization or referral, and sends the request to PCP in a timely manner.</li>
<li>Maintains general knowledge of insurance plans accepted by Premier.</li>
<li>Records all record requests in the system and reviews HIPAA requirements and patient Medical Record Request form prior to the release of patient information to any person other than the verified patient.</li>
<li>Communicates with patients in the lobby if physician or provider is running behind schedule.</li>
<li>Reviews and prepares charts for the following day according to the practice schedule.</li>
<li>Maintains a secure and accurate cash drawer, daily balances the cash drawer, and closing batch.</li>
<li>Protects patients’ rights by maintaining the confidentiality of personal and financial information; maintains patient confidentiality consistent with HIPAA requirements.</li>

EDUCATION

Patient Service Representatives are friendly and outgoing - both in person and on the telephone.
 
Duties and Responsibilities (included, but not limited to): 
<ul>
<li>Excellent customer service providing a warm welcome to all caller, patients, coworkers, and visitors</li>
<li>Answer, screen, and route incoming calls and provide needed information.</li>
<li>Schedule, cancel, reschedule and confirm appointments.</li>
<li>Create accounts for new patients and update current patient information. (name, address, phone number, insurance information, etc.)</li>
<li>Check patients in and out.</li>
<li>Make any needed follow-up appointments.</li>
<li>Daily scan any patient information that comes into the office by fax, mail, and hand-delivered into the EMR/EDR then give the original to the appropriate provider. </li>
<li>Assist the billing office staff by collecting co-payments.</li>
<li>Enter new CPT/CPD codes &amp; prices for all fee schedules as needed.</li>
<li>Review Laboratory invoices for accuracy, correct if needed.</li>
<li>Other duties as assigned.</li>

Work hours: Full-time, 40 hours per week on average. Clinic hours are 8:00 am to 6:00 pm Monday through Friday, and 8:00 am to 4:00 pm Saturday. This position may be scheduled to work any of the days the clinic is open (Monday through Saturday - including holidays) and is scheduled to arrive 15 minutes prior to opening and scheduled to leave one hour after closing but may leave earlier if work is complete.

Patient Service Representative (PSR) represents Carolina Health Centers and the assigned practice site in a professional manner and serves as the first point of contact for patients, visitors and callers. This position provides daily support for the practice site including telephone coverage, appointment scheduling, check-in and check-out of patients (ensuring demographic and insurance information, as well as payment information is accurate and complete in the practice management system), patient referrals, and general patient communication.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Customer Service:
