Position Purpose: 
The purpose of this Veterinarian Technician position inherently involves providing excellent veterinary care to our Vetco Total Care full-service hospital patients and phenomenal customer care to their owners. The Veterinary Technician represents the mission and values to all clients and partners. Essential Job Functions:
The incumbent must be able to perform all the following duties and responsibilities with or without reasonable accommodation:

Greet clients and patients arriving for appointments or walk-ins and escort into an exam room, obtain weight and vital signs (temperature, pulse, respirations, pain score, body condition score), record all in the electronic medical record, and begin documentation of the patient visit in the electronic medical record by obtaining and recording a thorough patient history.

Assist veterinarian with appointments (routine and emergency), surgery, dentistry, and euthanasia's, taking direct supervision from the veterinarian(s) and the Hospital Office Manager or Hospital Leader on Duty.

Perform patient restraint, obtain and process laboratory samples, handle and dispense medications at the direction of the veterinarian, and maintain the electronic medical record.

Schedule appointments, communicate with and educate clients, relay test results to doctor and clients, maintain and update inventory as well as client/patient records, and manage accounts receivable.

Prepare patients for surgical and dental procedures, safely support induction and monitoring of anesthetized patients including checking and recording vital parameters (under direction of the veterinarian), monitor patients during recovery, and prepare them for discharge to owner or transfer to an overnight care facility as needed.

Provide in-hospital treatments for sick patients including giving injectable and oral medications as well as intravenous therapies; keep patients clean, watered, and fed (when indicated and directed by veterinarian), and safely walk canine patients when necessary for elimination.

Participate in the training of new staff members and general dissemination of knowledge as required.
</li>
<li>
Keep hospital environment neat and clean; perform regular cleaning of environment based on necessity as well as based on a pre-determined maintenance schedule.

Nature of Supervision: 
In all activities related to the care of patients, the Veterinary Technician will take direct supervision from the veterinarians as well as the Hospital Office Manager or Hospital Leader on Duty. For purposes of overall supervision, the Veterinary Technician takes direction from the Hospital Office Manager.
Planning and Problem Solving:
Like all team members, the Veterinary Technician plays a crucial role in ensuring that day-to-day operation of the hospital is efficient and provides an optimal experience for our patients and clients.

Education/Experience:

Work Environment:

Essential Duties &amp; Responsibilities
Provide nursing care and husbandry of all hospitalized and quarantine animals. Prepare for medical and surgical procedures, responsible for set-up and break-down of equipment necessary for those procedures. Participate in medical and surgical care of all animals at Franklin Park Zoo, Stone Zoo, Trailside Museum, and in our Conservation Department. Performance of in-house laboratory procedures, including manual complete blood counts, fecal examination, urinalysis, cytology, serum biochemistries, etc. Daily data entry, record keeping, and filing are required. In the absence of a veterinarian, perform triage and direct emergency care of animals. Other responsibilities as required.
Minimum Job Requirements
Minimum of three years of full time experience as a clinical veterinary technician. Must be certified or eligible for certification as a veterinary technician in Massachusetts and nationally. Must be willing to work in direct contact with potentially dangerous animals, contagious diseases, and in hazardous conditions. Must receive rabies immunizations/titers, TB testing, and have an understanding of zoonotic disease risks. Able to work weekends, holidays, overtime, as well as outside and in inclement weather when needed. Must be able to obtain class A Massachusetts License to Carry Firearms, class III driver's license,and pass CORI. Must be willing to learn new techniques on the job and to work within a diverse team. Clear written communication skills are essential. Must be able to lift 50 pounds.
Preferred Job Requirements
Five years or more of progressive clinical experience. Previous experience working with zoological species. Knowledge of and experience with laboratory procedures, especially manual blood counts, including those on avians and reptiles. QUALIFICATIONS:

Job duties include, but are not limited to:
Animal restraint, triage of incoming patients, collection and analysis of lab samples, diagnostic imaging, management and nursing care of medical and hospitalized cases with varying degrees of stability, administration of medications, effective communication of treatment plans with clients, surgical preparation and assistance, and anesthetic management.

K9s For Warriors is the nation’s largest provider of service dogs to veterans suffering from the invisible wounds of war, such as Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. Our unique, in-house program helps change the lives of American heroes by pairing them with a battle buddy, who was likely a rescue dog and then teaching him or her to utilize that dog to mitigate the symptoms of their wounds. In order to continue the great work we are doing, we are in need of a Veterinary Technicianto join our amazing team!
Role and Responsibilities
Under the general direction and supervision of Medical Management, the Veterinary Technician is responsible for the medical care and wellness of all dogs within the program and the maintenance of all medical records. 
Essential Functions and Duties 
<ul>
<li>Review medical records and establish a plan of action for each dog upon intake to the program</li>
<li>Administer vaccines under Veterinarian supervision/direction</li>
<li>Collect and run diagnostic samples including but not limited to fecal, blood, urine, and skin. Submit to outside laboratories when needed.</li>
<li>Implant microchips as needed and/or transfer ownership of implanted microchips. Maintain current microchip information.</li>
<li>Create individualized dietary plans for all dogs in the program. Adjust diets with current weight trends. Maintain weight and food intake logs.</li>
<li>Communicate with local veterinary clinics to schedule necessary appointments for all dogs in the program. Transport dogs as needed.</li>
<li>Assist doctors with exams and in surgery</li>
<li>Intubate and administer anesthetic drugs and monitor anesthesia </li>
<li>Obtain vitals, perform simple medical exams, and complete medical notes under Veterinarian supervision/direction</li>
<li>Maintain current and comprehensive medical records, including applicable certificates, on all dogs in the program</li>
<li>Maintain current inventory and logs of medications, clinic supplies, diagnostic supplies, etc.</li>
<li>Obtain health certificates and applicable documents for local and interstate transport, including but not limited to Puerto Rico, Hawaii, and Guam.</li>
<li>Fill and administer intravenous, intramuscular, subcutaneous, topical, and oral drugs/medications, including monthly preventions</li>
<li>Always handle animals humanely and safely</li>
<li>Follow and adhere to all PPE policies</li>
<li>Participate in mock veterinary exams with Warriors during class, educating about appropriate veterinary care and what to expect when returning home with their Service Dog</li>
<li>Ability to work with dogs on unknown or outdated vaccination history</li>
<li>Initiate emergency procedures when indicated</li>
<li>Follow medical care guidelines provided by Veterinarian</li>
<li>Report any abnormalities with dogs to the Medical Management and Veterinarian</li>
<li>Address any medical concerns our Warriors may have regarding their Service Dog, and conduct exams, draft care plans, and conduct follow ups, as needed.</li>

Qualifications and Education Requirements
