Position Summary:
Reporting to the Chief Medical Officer (CMO), the Certified Nurse Midwife in collaboration with Ocean Health Initiatives, Inc. (OHI), staff physicians, will provide primary care services to the patients of OHI that is consistent with established policies, procedures and protocols, the Joint Commission policies and procedures, OSHA standards, and other safety and health related codes and laws.
Responsibilities:
<ul>
<li>Performs complete health examination of perinatal, prenatal, and postpartum patients, including health history and physical examination, in accordance with protocols established by the Chief Medical Officer or designee.</li>
<li>Provides direct care for women in labor, including management of normal delivery.</li>
<li>Provides health instruction for women in all stages of life cycle.</li>
<li>Provides health examinations of inter-partum patients, especially those seeking advice concerning family planning and gynecological issues.</li>
<li>Provides patient/family education, health counseling, and health advocacy services to patients, their families and significant other.</li>
<li>Works collaboratively with physicians, nurses, social workers, and other members of the multidisciplinary health care team to establish patient care programs and policies.</li>
<li>Participates in OB/GYN call schedule as directed.</li>
<li>Orders appropriate laboratory studies and referrals, interprets the results of laboratory tests and follow-up of abnormal lab reports.</li>
<li>Orders treatment in keeping with protocols established by the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology (ACOG) and OHI approved guidelines.</li>
<li>Provides direction and supervision to the ancillary clinical OB/GYN staff.</li>
<li>Carries out administrative activities in the Obstetrics and Gynecology department as directed by the CMO or designee.</li>
<li>Prepares reports of activities of the Obstetrics and Gynecology section as directed by the CMO or designee.</li>
<li>Carries out additional duties including research projects, and community health education, as assigned by the CMO or designee.</li>
<li>Is responsible for the proper interpretation and execution of clinician orders.</li>
<li>Prepare OB/GYN paperwork, having knowledge of all forms pertinent to the EMR System.</li>
<li>Verify pregnancy tests and perform routine prenatal screenings.</li>
<li>Responsible to supervise patients and staff during an emergent OB/GYN situation until appropriate emergency medical assistance arrives.</li>
<li>Responsible to pursue necessary educational requirements to maintain license.</li>
<li>Instruct patients on all aspects of inter-partum care including but not limited to medication, treatments, procedures, pre-term labor, etc.</li>
<li>Provides leadership role in clinical collaboration committees as it relates to the day-to-day patient care model. Demonstrates professional and leadership qualities to facilitate a cohesive and productive team.</li>
<li>Protects patient privacy and maintain accurate medical records.</li>
<li>Must be capable to perform and analysis routine in-office testing.</li>
<li>Participates in and supports accreditation, compliance, and regulatory activities of OHI.</li>
<li>Provides telephone triage and consultation to patients.</li>
</ul>
Education/Experience/Licensure:
<ul>
<li>Master’ Degree in Nursing from an accredited School of Nursing is required.</li>
<li>Three to five years’ experience at RN level in medical center, private practice or long-term care setting is preferred.</li>
<li>Active State of New Jersey RN and Advanced Practice Nurse License are required.</li>
<li>Active State of New Jersey CDS and DEA License to prescribe and maintain controlled substances are required.</li>
<li>Certification by the New Jersey State Board of Nursing as an Advanced Practice Nurse is required.</li>
<li>BLS for providers through the American Heart Association certification is required. </li>

The APN/Certified Midwife functions as a liaison for the clinic; interfacing with patient, family, physicians, and other ancillary departments while providing oversight for the patient. This includes the initial intake, social service assessment, physical assessment, review of lab and diagnostics, nutritional assessment, education, genetic screening, education, plan of care, financial assistance and all prenatal and follow up visits.
