About the Role
xAI is seeking a Construction Supervisor to oversee the execution of concrete and underground construction for our state-of-the-art data center in Memphis. You'll lead teams, manage contractors, and ensure our infrastructure meets the rigorous demands of a high-performance AI facility. This is an in-person role based in Memphis, Tennessee, with approximately 20% travel required.
Responsibilities
<ul>
<li>Oversee and coordinate concrete pouring, forming, and finishing, as well as underground utility installations, ensuring compliance with project specifications.</li>
<li>Manage and schedule contractors, subcontractors, and on-site crews to meet project milestones and maintain quality standards.</li>
<li>Ensure contractors and subcontractors adhere to their scope of work, delivering high-quality concrete and underground infrastructure.</li>
<li>Monitor daily construction progress, maintaining detailed logs and plot plans of site activities.</li>
<li>Develop and enforce construction schedules, keeping projects on time and within budget.</li>
<li>Promote and enforce xAI's safety program, fostering a strong safety culture among all employees, contractors, and subcontractors.</li>
<li>Lead, train, and supervise foremen and crews, encouraging teamwork and accountability.</li>
<li>Resolve on-site issues, including conflicts with contractors, material delays, or technical challenges, with a focus on concrete and underground systems.</li>
<li>Conduct regular site inspections to ensure compliance with local regulations, safety protocols, and xAI's quality standards.</li>
<li>Prepare and present progress reports and construction metrics to senior management.</li>
</ul>
Basic Qualifications
<ul>
<li>5+ years of experience managing construction teams, with a focus on concrete work and underground utilities.</li>
<li>5+ years of direct experience in concrete pouring, forming, finishing, and underground infrastructure (e.g., conduits, piping, or foundations) for large-scale industrial or commercial projects.</li>
<li>High school diploma or equivalency certificate.</li>
</ul>
Preferred Skills and Experience
<ul>
<li>Postsecondary diploma or degree in construction management, civil engineering, or a related discipline.</li>
<li>Proven expertise in managing concrete and underground construction for data centers or similar high-tech facilities.</li>
<li>Familiarity with Memphis building codes and regulations.</li>
<li>Proficiency in construction management software (e.g., Procore, AutoCAD, MS Project).</li>
<li>Thorough understanding of construction critical paths, including sequencing and workflows through project completion.</li>
<li>Strong knowledge of construction materials, specifications, and methods, particularly for concrete and underground systems.</li>
<li>Demonstrated ability to lead diverse teams, coordinate multiple scopes, and foster collaboration under pressure.</li>
<li>Expert application of safety and environmental principles, with a track record of implementing a robust safety culture.</li>
<li>Superior conflict-resolution and problem-solving skills, with professional judgment in complex scenarios.</li>
<li>Ability to build and maintain effective relationships with stakeholders, vendors, and decision-makers.</li>
<li>Experience using Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Teams, Project, etc.) for reporting and scheduling.</li>

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

<li>Work with the Production Manager to ensure ordered materials are correct</li>
<li>Create an open line of communication with customers throughout the project</li>
<li>Conduct hourly inspections of work quality from subcontractors/crew leaders</li>
<li>Make or delegate corrections to work quality</li>
<li>Manage material needs and returns with documentation</li>
<li>Communicate with the office team on the progression of the job</li>
<li>Delegate trailer delivery and pick-up for each job</li>
<li>Perform final walk-arounds and inspections on every job</li>
<li>Collect final payments and complete job folders for every job</li>
</ul>
Preferred Experience
<ul>
<li>High school diploma or equivalent experience in roofing and/or light construction</li>
<li>Valid driver’s license required; chauffeur’s license preferred</li>
<li>Ability to communicate effectively with customers and co-workers</li>
<li>Must be able to work outdoors in adverse weather conditions</li>
<li>Must be able to climb onto and walk on multiple roofing pitches</li>
<li>Must be able to lift, pull, and push 75+ pounds</li>
<li>Ability to perform basic math and problem-solving techniques</li>
