Description
The Advanced Care Paramedic is responsible for providing advanced lifesaving interventions to patients and&nbsp;serves as the principal paramedic for specialty care and ALS transports. This position provides care for both adult&nbsp;and pediatric patients during specialty care transports, on-site care interventions for acute hospital, home visits,&nbsp;Industrial Health locations, correctional health service locations, and event medicine. The Advanced Care&nbsp;Paramedic will function at the highest levels within their scope of practice and make advanced clinical choices.&nbsp;This position will invest substantial time in obtaining and maintaining advanced certifications (i.e., ALS, PALS,&nbsp;ITLS, GEMS). Many Nations Academy (MNA) is an alternative high school within the NAYA Family Center, located in the Cully neighborhood of NE Portland. Annual enrollment is 50 to 60 students. MNA’s educational model is culturally specific and reflects the values of Native peoples, though our students come from all backgrounds.
 
Being a teacher at MNA is different than at other schools. Our teacher to student ratio is 1 to 10, so you can get to know each learner and their needs. Food, housing and other resource needs that are barriers to learning can be addressed by NAYA staff right in the building.
 
You will be joining a small, supportive teaching team that works together closely. This is an ideal role for a teacher at any stage of career, whether you are new to the classroom or you have experience but want to work within a new model. At NAYA, you will not be on your own. Teamwork, cross curricular learning and professional development are important values for us.
 
Work hours are 8:30 am to 4:30 pm. Class is in session from 9 am to 4:20 pm Monday through Thursday and on Friday from 9 am to 1:30 pm. The school year ends in mid June and begins again in early September. We will be assembling a substitute teacher roster throughout the entire ’24 – ’25 school year.

<li>Emergency procedures-Regular trainings and documentation of these trainings should be conducted with all staff. Fire, tornado, and active shooter trainings should be held. Procedures for if a club member is not picked up should be discussed as well as procedures for how to handle a club member who is being violent and/or abusive.</li>
<li>Illness-Staff should be trained on proper procedures for staff or club member illnesses.</li>
<li>School rules- Staff should be notified if sites have rules specific to their schools. An example may be that certain exit doors are not to be used, or certain procedures should be followed for parent drop-off or pick-up depending on the school’s set up.</li>

<li>Prepare initial patient medical record.</li>
<li>Respond to routine requests for information in a timely manner following procedure/guidelines. Reduce inquiries to others when information is readily available through other means.</li>
<li>Maintain equipment and report broken or missing equipment to manager as soon as possible.</li>
<li>Willingly learns new skills, procedures, protocols as they are introduced; attends training and masters new software programs.</li>
<li>May perform duties of Medical Assistant.</li>
<li>Maintain work area in a neat and orderly fashion.</li>
<li>Attend meetings as required.</li>
<li>Demonstrate flexibility to perform duties wherever volume deems it necessary within the office.</li>
</ul>
BASIC KNOWLEDGE:
<ul>
<li>High school diploma or GED.</li>
<li>Knowledge of medical office procedures and terminology.</li>
<li>Knowledge of grammar, spelling and punctuation to document patient information and type correspondence.</li>
<li>Skill in greeting patients and answering telephones with a strong customer service focus.</li>
<li>Skill in operating a variety of office equipment such as copier, facsimile machine and computer.</li>
<li>Ability to speak clearly and concisely.</li>
<li>Ability to read, understand and follow oral and written instructions given in English.</li>
<li>Ability to sort and file by alphabetic or numeric systems.</li>
<li>Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with customers (patients, physicians, coworkers, supervisor, etc.).</li>
</ul>
EXPERIENCE:
Minimum one-year secretarial experience preferably in a medical setting.

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Conditions common to a clinical practice environment. Involves frequent contact with patients and other customers. Interaction with others is constant and interruptive. Work may be stressful at times. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
INDEPENDENT ACTION:
Work is performed under general supervision, with some independent judgment exercised in determining priorities.
