SUMMARY OF DUTIES:&nbsp; Under general supervision, is a member of an engine company, ladder truck or medical rescue by protecting life and property, performing live-fire suppression, rendering emergency medical care, response to hazardous materials incidents, and maintains fire apparatus, issued equipment and department facilities.&nbsp; An EMT-Basic Firefighter must pass an exam testing the ability to assess patient condition, handle trauma or cardiac emergencies and clear blocked airways. They also learn to immobilize injured patients and give oxygen.
General Knowledge and Skill Requirements:&nbsp; The firefighter must know how to assume and transfer command at a fire scene using the department's incident management system. H/She must demonstrate the ability to complete an incident report and communicate the needs of his/her team to command authority using the department's standard operating procedures.
Fire ground Operations Requirements:&nbsp; The firefighter must demonstrate the ability to extinguish an ignitable liquid fire using foam and ensure that the fire does not reignite. H/She must show the ability to assemble a team and devise the attack technique for fighting various kinds of fires. The firefighter must be able to select tools to force entry into a building and how to provide proper ventilation in a building based on the structure and nature of the fire. She must know how to protect evidence in cases of arson and demonstrate the ability to rescue victims of motor vehicle accidents using extrication tools. The firefighter must also know how to conduct hazard inspections and how to properly document any hazards found.

 Duties &amp; Responsibilities:

<li>Respond to all emergency and non-emergency situations. Assess nature and extent of illness or injuries, administer emergency medical care and transport injured or sick persons, if required.</li>
<li>Clean and maintain station, apparatus and vehicles. Ensure emergency vehicles are fueled and that the proper tools, supplies and medical equipment are on board at all times. Identify needed repairs or existing safety hazards. </li>
<li>Complete and maintain proper records and reports for response situations as well as equipment and vehicles used.</li>
<li>Understand the Incident Command System (ICS) and the fire scene accountability system Standard Operating Guideline as adopted at Grand Canyon West. Responsible for knowing the layout, physical conditions, locations and target hazards of Grand Canyon West.</li>
<li>Determine best method for attack, control and extinguishing of fires. Use appropriate fire suppression techniques and equipment.</li>
<li>Attend training classes and maintain proficiency to keep current certification licensure and keep abreast of new developments in the field.</li>

As an Auxiliary Firefighter you will work a 12-hour shift covering the City days, nights and/or weekends, responding to requests for service and emergencies such as storms, medical emergencies, fires, and perform service work as needed. Auxiliary Firefighters must be at least 18 years old, have a valid Michigan Driver's License and safe driving record, possess the Michigan Fire Fighter I &amp; II certifications, Michigan EMT license, and Hazardous Materials Awareness and Operations Certification. Candidates must also have the ability to pass the CPAT and NIMS 100, 200, 700, 800.
