GENERAL SUMMARY: 
The primary purpose of this position is to support families efforts to reach their goals and to guide and coordinate educational opportunities for families per the Head Start Family Framework. Family &amp; Health Services (FHS) Aides will also work closely with the Health &amp; Data Entry Manager to ensure that all enrolled children receive the required health screenings, exams, and necessary follow-up. FHS Aides also provide classroom coverage during meals and at designated times during the day.

The Back Office Technician is responsible for performing a variety of patient care, office, and laboratory duties. The Back Office Technician prepares patients for examination and assists other optical professionals in providing treatment to the eyes. 
 
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

<li>Ensures a positive and professional environment where patients feel comfortable; prepares patients for treatment and assists doctors. </li>
<li>Collects and documents the patient’s chief complaint.</li>
<li>Verifies patient’s ocular and medical health history. Documents any medications patient is taking.</li>
<li>Obtains consents from patients. Ensures patients read and sign the consents.</li>
<li>Performs Refractions.</li>
<li>Administers basic Visual Acuity (VA) assessments.</li>
<li>Performs intraocular pressure (IOP) tests with a Tonopen unit.</li>
<li>Takes Fundus photos.</li>
<li>Administers a Visual Field (VF) test.</li>
<li>Performs Flourescein Angiogram (FA) procedures.</li>
<li>Performs Indocyanine Green Angiography (ICG) procedures.</li>
<li>Administers topical ophthalmic and dilation medications to patients.</li>
<li>Maintains a clean, sterile, and stocked exams rooms.</li>
<li>Provides written instructions and/or patient education materials for the patient to review at home. Ensures patient understands all instructions.</li>
<li>Provides accurate documentation and summarization of an ocular examination, while maintaining patient flow and communication regarding appointment status.</li>
<li>Files patient forms and updates information in CareCoud/EMR system.</li>
<li>In some clinics, may be required to drive patients in a company-provided vehicle.</li>
<li>Maintains an appropriate professional appearance and demeanor in accordance with Company policies. </li>
<li>Keep commitments and keep direct supervisor informed of work progress, timetables, and issues.</li>
<li>Maintain strict compliance with State, Federal and other regulations (e.g., OSHA, WC, HIPAA, ADA, FEHA, DOL, HR policies and practices).</li>
<li>Other duties as assigned by management.</li>
</ul>
 
Requirements:
REQUIRED: High School education, GED or equivalent. Valid driver’s license and automobile insurance. Ability to travel to other clinics as assigned.
 
DESIRABLE:
Experience in the Ophthalmic or Optometric Industry. Experience as a Back Office Technician.
CERTIFICATES/LICENSES/REGISTRATIONS:
<ul>
<li>Certified Ophthalmic Technician (preferred)</li>
<li>Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (preferred) </li>
<li>Valid Driver’s License may be required based on clinic location(s).</li>
</ul>

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.

<li>This is primarily an office classification. Temperature conditions are controlled with limited direct exposure to hazardous physical substances. The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate.</li>
<li>Ability to travel to between offices. </li>
<li>While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, handle, or feel, reach with hands and arms, see, talk, and hear. The employee will frequently lift and/or carry reports, records and other materials that typically weigh less than 20 pounds. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, bend, or crouch. </li>
<li>Finger dexterity is needed to access, enter, and retrieve data using a computer keyboard, calculator, and other standard office equipment.</li>
</ul>
