GI PROGRAM OVERVIEW
 
This collaborative effort between the University of Maryland division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology and Upper Chesapeake Health will establish a comprehensive GI service line at Upper Chesapeake Medical Center in Bel Air, MD. Starting July 2025, the GI service line offers inpatient and outpatient GI services, in the newly opened Ambulatory Surgical Center and ambulatory clinical space. Currently, two GI providers and two nurse practitioners comprise the team; we seek to recruit 3 - 4 additional gastroenterologists. Rapidly growing comprehensive GI practice in Harford County, Maryland, 40 minutes from downtown Baltimore. This position is eligible for H-1B visa sponsorship on a case-by-case basis, competitive guaranteed base annual salary, sign-on bonus, quality, productivity and relocation bonus available, CME allocation of $3,000/year. 
Three pathways available to ensure an excellent lifestyle work balance with flexibility to tailor pathways for the right applicant:

<li> GI hospitalist covering inpatient consultations and endoscopy, 7 days on/7 days off, including 24-hour call for 24 weeks/year. Out-patient endoscopy is possible if desired.</li>
<li> Hybrid GI hospitalist – Mainly inpatient coverage with some outpatient duties. Similar schedule as the GI hospitalist with an extra day of ambulatory endoscopy in the ASC.</li>
<li>Outpatient/Ambulatory model – 3-4 days of outpatient endoscopy performed in the hospital endoscopy suite and ASC plus 1-2 days of clinic with a few weeks of inpatient call coverage.</li>
<li>For applicants with special interests, resources are available to build subspecialty service lines.</li>
<li>Strong academic affiliation with the University of Maryland Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology.</li>
<li>Adjunct Assistant Professor academic appointment.</li>
<li>Access to all divisional educational offerings (e.g., GI Grand Rounds, Research Conference, etc.)</li>

DEPARMENT ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Inpatient coverage details:
<ul>
<li>The GI team provides coverage for a 250-bed hospital, Level 1 trauma</li>
<li>Dedicated endoscopy suite with 24/7 on-call nurse and tech</li>
<li> 24/7 anesthesia service for propofol administration.</li>
<li>Olympus scopes with Hemospray, over-the-scope-clips, and other accessories available.</li>
<li> 24/7 general surgery, colorectal surgery and IR services</li>
<li> Inpatient list averages 15-20 patients/day and Inpatient endoscopies average 5-7/ day</li>
<li>Advanced endoscopy skills are not mandatory, but equipment is available.</li>
<li> Roundtrip advanced procedures established with University of Maryland Medical Center</li>
<li>Tiger communication system for easy access to consultants</li>
<li>We use EPIC EMR system for inpatient and outpatient notes and ProVation for procedure notes</li>
<li>infusion center for IBD and other drugs.</li>
<li>EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE</li>
<li>Doctoral degree in Medicine in area of specialty</li>
<li>3-5 years of clinical experience</li>
<li>Board certified or board eligible gastroenterologists (preferred)</li>
<li> New GI Fellowship graduates and experienced GI physicians are encouraged to apply.</li>
<li>Advanced endoscopy skills such as ERCP, EUS (preferred)</li>
<li>CPR required</li>
<li>BLS required</li>
<li>ACLS and/or other relevant certification as required by the department</li>
<li>Ability to perform general GI procedures proficiently (e.g., upper endoscopy with biopsies, bleeding control, esophageal dilations, foreign body retrieval, colonoscopy with polypectomy, and PEG tube placement).</li>
<li>Ability to multitask and conduct inpatient and outpatient consultations independently</li>
<li>Possess strong clinical knowledge base with solid foundation to manage GI and hepatology disorders</li>
<li>Efficient and timely documentation skills</li>
<li>Ability to assist and interact with nurse practitioners in the outpatient and inpatient setting</li>
<li>Ability to communicate effectively with consultants</li>
<li>Team player with the ability to communicate and interact respectfully with all hospital staff</li>

The referenced base salary range represents the low and high end of University of Maryland’s Faculty Physician’s Inc. salary range for this position. Some candidates will not be eligible for the upper end of the salary range. Family Medicine Physician - Academic Medicine

Job Description
Palo Alto Veterans Institute for Research (PAVIR) supports the nation's second largest research program conducted among the VA Hospitals and is looking for a part-time Life Sciences Research Assistant. The Research Assistant will support ongoing projects aiming at elucidating the mechanisms of various cardiovascular diseases including calcific aortic valve disease, coronary vasospasm, and diabetes. The Research Assistant will support the research of a wet laboratory under the direction of the Principal Investigator - Ian Y. Chen, MD, PhD – Assistant Professor in Cardiovascular Medicine and Radiology at Stanford University.
Duties include performing basic molecular and cell biology experiments on biological tissues, stem cells, and their derivatives in the laboratory, as well as helping to perform chart biopsy, recruit patients, and applying electronic devices on patients for monitoring of their heart rhythm in clinics.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

<li>Daily maintenance and passaging of primary cells and pluripotent stem cells, differentiation of pluripotent stem cells into endothelial cells, cryopreservation of pluripotent stem cells and their derivatives;</li>
<li>Digest human valve tissue with collagenase and isolate endothelial cells from human valve tissue.</li>
<li>Analyze cells and tissue using molecular and cellular assays (i.e., qPCR, Western blot, immunofluorescence staining, flow cytometry, ELISA).</li>
<li>Perform chart biopsy to identify and recruit study patients;</li>
<li>Explain the study procedures to study patients;</li>
<li>Obtain informed consent per defined protocol;</li>
<li>Answer any study-related questions from the study patients;</li>
<li>Apply electronic heart monitoring devices on patients; </li>
<li>Assist with tracking study patients for follow-up assessments.</li>
<li>Other research related duties as necessary (i.e., prepare buffers, media, data analysis).</li>

QUALIFICATIONS 
<ul>
<li>Required: College-level coursework and lab work in biology;</li>
<li>Valid Driver License is required for occasional travel to Stanford Campus;</li>
<li>Prior experience in a research laboratory, as well as experience with various biology techniques including PCR and Western blot strongly desired;</li>
<li>Desired: Previous experience in a variety of research techniques/methods and follow-up data collection;</li>
<li>General computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook; </li>
<li>Knowledge of laboratory safety rules and procedures;</li>
<li>Knowledge of safe handling/storage of biohazardous chemicals and bloodborne pathogens;</li>
