Summary:
The Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse provides comprehensive patient care in the obstetric setting. The position requires strong clinical skills in obstetrics, critical thinking abilities, excellent communication, and a commitment to maintaining the highest standards of patient safety and professional ethics.
Essential Work Functions:

<li>Communicate labor and delivery procedures to patients and families, providing reassurance and addressing concerns</li>
<li>Administer prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with approved obstetric nursing techniques</li>
<li>Prepare equipment and aid physician during labor, delivery, and examination of patients</li>
<li>Provide immediate postpartum care, including assessment and stabilization of mother and newborn</li>
<li>Educate patients and families on postpartum recovery, breastfeeding, and newborn care</li>
<li>Collaborate with obstetricians, anesthesiologists, neonatologists, and other team members to deliver cohesive care</li>
<li>Respond to obstetric emergencies, including preeclampsia, hemorrhage, or fetal distress, using evidence-based protocols</li>
<li>Document patient care, assessments, and interventions accurately in the medical record</li>
<li>Participate in quality improvement initiatives to enhance maternal and neonatal outcomes</li>
<li>Perform fetal monitoring and interpret results</li>
<li>Assist in cesarean sections and other obstetric procedures</li>
<li>Comply with all regulatory standards, including hospital policies, state laws, and federal guidelines for obstetric nursing care</li>

<li>Has not unlawfully used any prescribed drug, controlled substance, or marijuana within one year before the time of application for certification and pass a drug test.</li>

Individual will provide residents with a calm, clean, comfortable environment for bathing and will bathe residents per schedule. The individual will observe and report any unusual symptoms or conditions to the charge nurse. The bathing experience for each resident will foster self respect and a feeling of worth by consistent understanding and kindness.
Essential Duties:
Responsible in giving thorough baths or showers to each resident as scheduled.
Clean and cut resident nails (except diabetic residents).
Be alert to and report any unusual conditions requiring attention to the charge nurse.
Weigh residents per schedule. Be consistent with weighing to maintain accurate reading. Document and monitor.
Clean whirlpool and shower between each resident per policy and procedure.
Clean and disinfect whirlpool chair, whirlpool, shower, and floor at end of shift per policy and procedure.
Keep all chemicals in locked compartment.
Other duties as assigned.
Keep all knowledge of residents confidential.
Working Condition:
Must be in good physical and mental health.
Constant standing, bending, stooping, lifting throughout during work period.
