Training
As an Outside Plant Construction Technician II, you will have the opportunity to obtain a Class A CDL through our in-house training program. You will attend safety training at one of our new facilities where you will also be trained on Pole Climbing and Bucket Trucks. On-the-job training includes exposure to various construction equipment including Directional Drill Rigs, Mini Excavators, Trenchers, and Locators. Fiber optic training includes Fusion Splicing, Fault Detection, and exposure to OTDRs and other advanced testing equipment.
The duration of training varies based on the team assignment. Training for underground teams is 3 weeks, with an additional 1 week required for aerial training. Depending on factors such as market needs, prior skills, and team size, some individuals may only complete underground training, while others may undergo the full 4-week program, including aerial training.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
This role requires frequent standing, walking, kneeling, climbing, and handling equipment, with the ability to lift/move up to 50 pounds regularly and over 100 pounds occasionally. Vision requirements include close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, and focus.
Work conditions often include exposure to outdoor weather, attics, crawl spaces, high-risk areas (e.g., high voltage, trenches, manholes), and mechanical equipment. Occasional exposure to extreme temperatures, humidity, fumes, and loud noise is expected.

SA-TECH currently supports the Naval Air Warfare Center (NAWCAD) Naval Air Systems Command, and the NAWCAD Webster Outlying Field (WOLF) Divisions by providing rapid organic engineering, prototyping, reverse-engineering, environmental testing, antenna repairs and life-cycle extensions, and production capabilities.
 
We are currently hiring for several open CNC machinist positions for a rapidly growing operation at WOLF in St. Inigoes, MD. Senior- or Master-level machinists are preferred but we can also consider talented mid-level (3-5 yr+) artisans. Successful applicants will join a motivated team of Machinists at our St. Inigoes, MD facility, leading and performing all facets of machining, including programming, setup, and operation of top-of-the-line CNC mills and lathes, as well as occasional conventional machining operations.
 
The following job functions are basic requirements (but other duties may be assigned as well):
<ul>
<li>Program and operate 3- and 5-axis CNC mills, CNC lathes, and on occasion, conventional mills, lathes, and miscellaneous machine shop equipment to manufacture unique, one-of-a-kind products and systems to support NAWCAD WOLF projects.</li>
<li>Implement geometric dimensioning and tolerance practices to ensure all production products are manufactured to drawing specifications.</li>
<li>Maintain proficiency in the latest CAD/CAM (ex: GibbsCAM) capabilities through formal and informal company-provided training.</li>
<li>Work collaboratively with customers to understand project requirements and schedule, developing machining options, and translating customer requirements into functional hardware that meets all project specifications.</li>
<li>Actively train &amp; mentor Junior Machinists and other shop personnel as needed.</li>
<li>Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient work environment.</li>
<li>Follow and enforce all safety standards within the Machine Shop.</li>
<li>Plan and conduct work from blueprints, drawings, test plans, and aviation technical publications.</li>
<li>Must work well with others, as part of a team.</li>
<li>Perform standard pre-operational checks on assigned machines and notify facility PM technician for any issues with machine performance.</li>
<li>Fabricate unconventional, one-of-a-kind items, systems, or apparatus in support of experimental project test articles.</li>
<li>Perform scheduled preventative maintenance on assigned machines, as well as maintenance of tool inventories and procurement of equipment, supplies, tools, and consumables as required.</li>
<li>Other tasking, as required to support customer requirements.</li>

Work Conditions:
<ul>
<li>Conditions will vary but most work will be performed in an active Machine Shop, so it can get loud.</li>
<li>Must be well-versed in safety protocols.</li>
<li>Position will include: 45% standing, 20% bending, 15% reaching, 5% sitting, 5% walking, and 10% lifting.</li>
<li>Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds unassisted.</li>
</ul>
Requirements:
Education/Experience/Skills:
<ul>
<li>High school education or equivalent.</li>
<li>Formal trade school, college, or military training school highly desired.</li>
<li>Mix of conventional and CNC machining experience, along with knowledge of GibbsCam or other common CAD/CAM programs required.</li>
<li>Full command of various machining processes including milling, turning, grinding, and plating.</li>
<li>An in-depth knowledge of materials including, but not limited to, carbon steel, aluminum, tool steel, stainless steel, composites, and fiberglass.</li>
<li>Skilled in mathematics required for machinists, also the ability to read a tape measure, micrometer, dial caliper, and all other measuring devices required by the Machinist Trade.</li>
<li>Forklift experience and/or 3D printing experience a plus.</li>
<li>Ability to train fellow employees on machine shop equipment and operations.</li>
<li>Current Driver’s License required; must be able to be insured through company’s vehicle insurance policy while driving work/government/rental vehicles during working hours, and for the duration of employment.</li>
<li>U.S. Citizenship required and you must already have or be able to obtain a U.S. DoD Secret Security Clearance prior to start date and maintain a Secret clearance throughout employment.</li>
<li>All candidates will be required to pass background screening to include SSN, Driver Record, and Criminal Background Investigation.</li>
