Role Overview
Hale Kipa is looking for Relief Youth Counselors to work with youth between the ages of 12 and 17, who are placed in the Hale Ho'opakele (TVAC-Emergency Shelter) because they are experiencing some type of crisis. Youth can be referred by various referral sources. Length of stay in the emergency shelter is anywhere from 1 day to 30+ days, while youth wait for their next, more permanent placement.
Relief Youth Counselors need to be able to manage crisis situations appropriately and help youth work through issues they are experiencing. They need to provide a stable, safe, structured, and nurturing environment, that encourages youth to participate in a program structure that includes: chores, meals, bedtime, quiet time, study time, meetings, and participation in planned activities and outings. Relief Youth Counselors also need to spend time discussing issues with youth to assist and support them in their emotional processing, encourage adaptive positive coping skill-building, and solidify/set limits. Also in the overnight position, Relief Youth Counselors are required to conduct and document 20-minute bed checks to ensure all youth are safe. Assisting youth with wake-up calls in the morning and helping them start their day off in a positive manner, are part of the responsibilities of this staff. In addition to working with the youth, Relief Youth Counselors are also responsible for understanding and handling intake processes and procedures accurately, as well as submitting required documentation in a timely manner. Having some computer knowledge and being able to navigate the electronic health record is essential to the role. Working as part of a team and possessing good communication skills, both verbal and written; and representing Hale Kipa in a professional manner when working with collaterals, parents/guardians, and youth are imperative to the Relief Youth Counselor position.
Schedule: Relief Youth Counselors are on call and work is not regular. Work is dependent on shift availability and the availability of the Relief Youth Counselor. Available shifts include:

<li>Weekend &amp; Swing shifts: Sat &amp; Sun 8:45am-10:30pm; Mon-Fri 2:30pm-10:30pm</li>

Job Description 
As a Group facilitator, the Licensed Mental Health Specialist (with a focus on Art Therapy) is required to be a creative self-starter, bringing positive energy and a willingness to work in a team environment. The ideal candidate will have experience working with adults with Serious &amp; Persistent Mental Illness (SPMI) and a desire to work in recovery-based care. The candidate will serve as artist-in-residence and champion for "the arts", promoting and encouraging art across the entire agency. Providing clinical supervision and clinical consult will be a component of the position.

<li>Facilitates and leads consumer groups with&nbsp;face-to-face group facilitation.</li>
<li>Assists the Center’s consumers with their mental, physical, and emotional health by incorporating&nbsp;art&nbsp;making into the group sessions.</li>
<li>Assists with psychosocial assessments and treatment planning, which includes maintaining accurate records for consumer progress.</li>
<li>Implements treatment plans under clinical supervision.</li>

<li>Assisting the Development Department with fundraising efforts periodically. Typically, there is one large event per year. This is a collaborative relationship with the fundraising department where input and ideas are welcomed and encouraged.&nbsp;</li>
<li>Plans and facilitates mixed medium art making workshops to support the Center’s annual fundraiser: Art of Transformation.</li>
<li>Fundraising efforts involve curating consumer art, photographing items, coordinating with consumers to release/sell art if they wish, assisting in displaying art at in-person events, and organizing transportation.</li>
<li>Leading demonstrations for the Board of Directors and/or donors could occur.</li>
<li>Maintains the confidentiality of consumers at all times and operates within the Code of Ethics of the United States Psychiatric Rehabilitation Association.&nbsp;</li>
<li>Develops familiarity with JCAHO, Medicaid, and DBH standards and compliance requirements, and assists in maintaining JCAHO accreditation and MHRS certification.</li>

Requirements:

<li>Lifting/Carrying more than 50 lbs. Able to sustain impact to body (i.e., being hit, etc.) in any area. Running, crouching, squatting, and ability to kneel for sustained periods of time.
