Job Summary and Qualifications
The Respiratory Therapist coordinates and delivers high-quality, patient-centered respiratory care in accordance with the nature and specific requirements of the department, and consistent with the scope and standards of practice for the relevant state and specialty. As a vital part of the patient care team, the Respiratory Therapist performs a variety of diagnostic tests and therapeutic procedures and monitors patients receiving invasive and noninvasive mechanical ventilation.
What you will do in this role:
<ul>
<li>You will perform and document patient assessment, including breath sounds, airway patency, and cuff pressure. You will conduct diagnostic procedures to evaluate the need for, and response to, respiratory therapy.</li>
<li>You will administer respiratory care therapies, including oxygen delivery, aerosol medication delivery, and chest physiotherapy.</li>
<li>You will assist with placement of artificial airways. You will initiate, monitor, and maintain mechanical ventilation.</li>
<li>You will monitor patient for therapeutic response. You will notify provider and intervene as appropriate in the event of an unintended response.</li>
<li>You will assist with transportation of ventilator-dependent patients.</li>
<li>You will respond to emergent patient situations and ensure airway integrity and adequate ventilation during resuscitation as required.</li>

What qualifications you will need:

<li>Advanced Cardiac Life Spt must be obtained within 6 months of employment start date</li>
<li>Basic Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date</li>

<li>Bachelors Degree, or Associate Degree, or Vocational School Graduate</li>

This position collaborates/work with staff within their practice or other professional disciplines within the affiliated medical groups as needed to achieve effective and efficient patient care delivery and the desired patient outcomes. 
 
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTION/COMPETENCIES
 
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

<li>The Medical Assistant will perform various administrative and clinical duties under the direction of their assigned direct supervisor.</li>
<li>The Medical Assistant will consistently confer with physicians, nursing, and other staff members to coordinate and schedule appointments of patients.</li>
<li>Greets and prepare patients.</li>
<li>Measures and records vital signs.</li>
<li>Records patient interview, history, and chief complaint.</li>
<li>Provides patient education with regards to medications, management of diseases, home treatments and special diets.</li>
<li>Prepares patients for examinations and performs routing screening tests.</li>
<li>Assists physicians with exams.</li>
<li>Performs phlebotomy and collection of other lab specimens. Performs basic lab tests.</li>
<li>Performs EKG’s.</li>
<li>Assists with X-ray and physician therapy procedures.</li>
<li>Prepares and administers medications with physician authorization.</li>
<li>Change dressings, applies bandages, removes sutures and other first aid procedures.</li>
<li>Uses CPR skills when necessary.</li>
<li>Prepares accurate, legal, and ethical documentation at all times.</li>
<li>Opens office in the morning and closes in the afternoon.</li>
<li>Assist in maintaining patient logs for the following: Lab requests, CT scans and other treatment orders for the patients.</li>
<li>Maintains prescription ledger when needed.</li>
<li>Ensures the back office has good flow, keeps rooms full and assists with room turnover.</li>
<li>Performs new patient thorough work-up (x-rays, vitals, new patient packet explanation).</li>
<li>Adds medical history on all new patients and updates all established patients’ history in accurately.</li>
<li>Performs accurate and complete room set-up for physician.</li>
<li>Ensures that all patients medication is updated before physician visit.</li>
<li>Handles set-up for in office surgical procedures.</li>
<li>Ensures appropriate consent form is completed correctly avoiding the use of too many medical abbreviations within the consent forms.</li>
<li>Scribe as assigned per physician office flow.</li>
<li>Prepares for seeing patients the following day, including patient confirmation for next day visit.</li>
<li>Completes patient medical record requests when necessary.</li>
<li>Assists in the orientation and training of new personnel.</li>
<li>Ensures proper hand off of responsibilities once their task is completed.</li>
<li>Meets established attendance criteria and starts work promptly. Punctual and dependable for assigned/confirmed shifts.</li>
<li>Respects and acknowledges the organizations commitment to cultural diversity, which is expressed through behavior, language and actions.</li>
<li>Consistently demonstrates good use of time and resources.</li>
<li>Adherence to HR, &amp; Corporate policies and procedures.</li>
<li>Ensures that all medical records are accurate and complete for all patients.</li>

<li>Regularly adheres and supports compliance and accreditation efforts as assigned including, but not limited to OSHA, HIPAA &amp; CMS guidelines for Parts C &amp; D on General Compliance and Fraud, Waste &amp; Abuse.</li>
<li>Performs other position related duties as assigned.</li>

Graduate of a Medical Assistant program or equivalent experience (based on State regulation requirements)
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
6 months experience working within a physician’s office desired. Urology experience desired.
