 Summary Description Under general supervision and following established policies and procedures, performs diagnostic Ultrasound exams utilizing appropriate imaging equipment.
 Verifies patient identity and reviews patient's medical record for appropriateness of exam or procedure. Interviews patient to obtain, verify or update medical history and assesses risk factors such as medications, pregnancy and/or psychological indicators. 
 Explains procedure to patient, including side effects of pharmaceuticals administered, risks, benefits, alternatives and follow-up. 
 Sets up equipment and acquires appropriate images as per script. Reviews images, makes initial observations, documents exceptions from established protocols and communicates data to radiologist. 
 Recognizes and responds to medical emergencies as appropriate. Provides physician-prescribed post care instructions to patients. 
 Participates in process improvement activities within radiology practice including but not limited to quality of care, patient flow, reject-repeat analysis and patient satisfaction. Provides imaging education to residents,
Qualifications: 
Minimum Qualifications
 1. Registered by the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARMDS) or registered by the
 American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT) in Sonography (S).
 2. Required to have or successfully complete American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support
 Healthcare Provider (BLS) training by end of orientation period.

Job Summary
Ultrasound Technicians, also known as diagnostic medical sonographers, use specialized equipment to create images, pictures and videotape of patient’s bodies using high frequency sound waves.  They operate ultrasound equipment, record the outcomes of results and present the results and patient history to the physician for his or her interpretation.
Essential Job Functions
<ul>
<li>Records any relevant medical history. Perform ultrasonic diagnostic procedures in accordance with accepted protocols as directed by physicians. </li>
<li>Instruct patients regarding procedures to ensure cooperation and optimum test results.</li>
<li>Follows prescribed safety standards in operating equipment. </li>
<li>Maintains examination rooms and work areas. Order and stock all ultrasound supplies cleans and maintains ultrasound equipment. </li>
<li>Interacts compassionately and effectively with patients; is knowledgeable of the risk of possible exposures to blood and body fluids.</li>
<li>Acquires and analyzes data that is generated by various ultrasound machines and related technologies.</li>
<li>Provides summaries of findings to physicians to assist with patient diagnosis and management.</li>
<li>Assists in electronic and clerical scheduling, record keeping and computerized image archiving.</li>
<li>Maintains the equipment.</li>
<li>Complies with all regulatory regulations, including NorthShore Health Centers policies and </li>
<li>Procedures and the Indiana State Department of Health regulations.</li>
<li>Participates in department-specific Quality Assurance programs. Complies with OSHA, universal precautions, and Exposure Control Plan.</li>
<li>Attends in-services, meetings, and mandatory training as required.</li>
<li>Executes verbal and/or written specific assigned tasks requiring similar or lesser skills and abilities some of which are continuing while others are occasional in nature.</li>

Summary:
This Job will apply medical ultrasound to the patient in accordance with a doctor's order and works within the scope of practice as defined by the Society of Diagnostic Medical Sonography and American Society Radiologic Technologists. This Job must be able to handle the movement, set-up and operation of medical ultrasound equipment. The technologist must be able to handle all patients according to the needs of that patient. This Job takes direction from the Radiology Medical Director and understands patient assessment and treatment procedures as outlined by policy. The Job provides patient assessment information to the Radiologist as needed. The technologist is trained in Basic Life Support and provides when asked to do so. The Job has a responsibility to appropriately document procedural information in the patient's medical record including PACS. CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Hospital - New Braunfels(CSRH-NB), nestled in the heart of downtown New Braunfels, is a full-service, 94-private bed facility that continues to expand to meet the needs of New Braunfels’ strong population growth. Innovative equipment and procedures are utilized, including an Outpatient Imaging Center, orthopedic and surgical services, rehabilitation, a renovated birthing center, including 24/7 neonatal coverage, emergency care, wound care/hyperbaric center, 3D mammography, and comprehensive heart care, from diagnostics to open-heart surgery. 
Responsibilities:
• Meets expectations of the applicable OneCHRISTUS Competencies: Leader of Self, Leader of Others, or Leader of Leaders. 
• Performs a variety of high-quality ultrasound procedures under minimal supervision utilizing diagnostic ultrasound imaging equipment. 
• Documents calibration procedures for individual imaging equipment. 
• Coordinates, organizes, plans and makes quick decisions on emergent cases; evaluates and acts to maintain efficiency and maximize productivity. 
• Assists the Radiologist in performing invasive biopsy procedures using the Ultrasound system to pin point exact anatomical location(s) of a specified diseased area for specimen evaluation and diagnosis. 
• Ensures that all procedures are accurately charged and sees to all charges being turned in at the end of the day for correct billing. 
• Sees that the Ultrasound room is adequately supplied, checks equipment and computer status for readiness, reports any problems that could change the work flow and make sure corrective actions are taken to ensure of work flow continuity. 
• Must be able to perform all tasks, as listed but not limited to nor to exclude any and all tasks as deemed necessary or recommended by the associate’s immediate supervisor or manager on duty. 
• Demonstrates competence to perform assigned patient care responsibilities in a manner that meets the population-specific and developmental needs of patients served by the department 
• Appropriately adapts assigned patient assessment to accommodate the unique physical, psychosocial, cultural, age specific and other developmental needs of each patient served. 
• Demonstrates adherence to the CORE values of Christus Health. 
• Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
Graduate of an accredited school of Ultrasound Technology or other accepted and approved equivalent required 
Minimum 1-year scanning experience in Abdomen, OB/GYN, Vascular and Breast Ultrasound preferred
ARDMS or ARRT/Sonography certification in Abdomen required within one year
LRST/ARRT Radiologic Technology License preferred 
Certification in OB/GYN or Breast preferred Current BLS (American Heart Association) required
