The Radiology Technician (ARRT) is responsible for delivering professional care to long-term acute and rehabilitation patients ranging in age from 18 years to geriatric.  Collaborates with hospital leaders, physicians and staff to provide optimum imaging services.  Supports employee education to enhance knowledge and skills necessary to achieve positive imaging results.  Supports patient education in order to maintain confidence and comfort with imaging staff.  Understands and utilizes department and corporation-wide policies and procedures relating to safety and infection control.

Qualifications
<ul>
<li>Current Certification in good standing with the American Registry of Radiologic Technicians (ARRT) for those states in which it is required.  Although ARRT certification preferred, in those states where it is not required, 2 years of hospital radiology tech experience may be substituted for certification</li>

<li>Consults with Neuroimaging physicians at Dent in matters of departmental and equipment issues with a high degree of planning and initiative. Ensures proper function and maintenance of MRI equipment by consulting with service technicians under contract with Dent.</li>

MRI Technologist Full-Time

<h3>Job Description</h3>
Job Summary: 
This position is responsible for performing radiologic and other diagnostic imaging procedures to assist physicians and other licensed medical providers in diagnosing the disease and injuries of Oyate Health Center(OHC) patients. 
Essential Functions:
<ul>
<li>Explains procedures to patients to reduce anxieties and obtain patient cooperation. </li>
<li>Prepares and positions patients for diagnostic imaging procedures.</li>
<li>Adjusts immobilization devices to obtain optimum views of the specified area of the body requested by the physician. </li>
<li>Moves imaging equipment into specified positions, and determines exposure factors based on height, weight, the portion of the body involved, and the degree of penetration required.</li>
<li>Adjust equipment controls to set exposure factors and produce images of proper detail, density, and accuracy. </li>
<li>Practices radiation protection techniques to minimize radiation to patients and staff. </li>
<li>Performs specialized and routine diagnostic radiology procedures. </li>
<li>Processes images and reviews for proper identification and quality control. </li>
<li>Prepares images for reading by radiologists or requesting physicians. </li>
<li>Performs routine maintenance, diagnoses malfunctions, makes minor repairs on radiologic equipment, and arranges for repairs as needed. </li>
<li>Responsible for establishing and maintaining the Quality Assurance/Quality Control programs required of the Radiology program. </li>

Supervisory Controls
The supervisor provides continuing or individual assignments by indicating generally what is to be done, limitations, quality and quantity expected, deadlines, and priority of assignments. When there are new, difficult, or unusual assignments, the supervisor provides additional, specific instructions for including suggested work methods or advice on source material available. The employee uses initiative in carrying out recurring assignments independently without specific instructions, but refers deviations, problems, and unfamiliar situations not covered by instructions to the supervisor for decision or help. The supervisor reviews finished work to assure methods used are technically accurate and in compliance with instructions or established procedures. Review of the work increases with more difficult assignments if the employee has not previously performed similar assignments. 
Guidelines
Guidelines include state and federal laws and regulations, OHC policies and procedures, OHC Medical Staff Bylaws, professional standards of medical practice, medical standing orders, and Centers or Medicare and Medicaid Services Conditions of Participation manual. These guidelines are not applicable to every situation encountered and require independent judgment, selection and interpretation in application. 
Guidelines include GPTLHB, OHC, and department policies and procedures. These guidelines are generally clear and specific, and deviations must be authorized by the supervisor.
Complexity/Scope of Work
The work includes some variations, and may involve different and unrelated processes and methods. The decision regarding what needs to be done depends upon the analysis of the subject, phase, or issues involved in each assignment, and the chosen course of action may have to be selected from many alternatives. The work involves conditions and elements that must be identified and analyzed to discern interrelationships. Positions with this level of complexity include those that are specialized or technical in nature, or also included supervisory/management tasks. The work involves treating a variety of conventional problems, questions, or situations in conformance with established criteria. Contacts
The personal contacts are with individuals or groups from outside the organization in a moderately unstructured setting. For example, the contacts are not established on a routine basis and the purpose and extent of each contact is different. Contacts are typically with clinical providers, patients/family members, employees, community resource agencies, various Health Departments, Tribal Health programs, and the general public. 
Contacts are primarily for obtaining, furnishing, exchanging and providing factual medical information. 
Work Environment/Physical Demands
The work involves moderate risks or discomforts that require special safety precautions, including exposure to contagious diseases. Employees may be required to use protective clothing, such as masks, gowns, coats, boots, goggles, gloves, or shields.

Education/Experience/Certificates/Credentials

<li>Graduate of an Accredited Program of Radiologic Technology and one (1) year of experience as a radiologic technologist. </li>
<li>Must have certification from the American Registry of Radiological Technologists (ARRT).</li>

Job Description
General Summary
Under general supervision, administers ionizing radiation (radiation therapy treatments) to patients as specifically prescribed by a physician in a detailed treatment plan according to established standards and practices.
Principal Responsibilities and Tasks
The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by people assigned to this classification. They are not to be construed as an exhaustive list of all job duties performed by personnel so classified.
Delivers a prescribed and planned course of radiation therapy to patients as per physician instruction in accordance with generally accepted radiation therapy practices and departmental procedures.
A. Checks prescription, diagnosis, chart, patient identification and other relevant information. Schedules patients and explains procedure, including pre- and post-treatment. Answers questions and reassures patient prior to procedure.
B. Interfaces with physicist, planning and mold technicians at initiation of treatment. Works in consultation with supportive care physicians, nurses and social workers in implementing therapy plan.
C. Prepares room and equipment for patient according to the prescription, including placement of immobilization devices, setting of field size, setting of treatment devices, parameters, distance, lead (Pb), protection devices.
D. Transfers patient to treatment table with care for IV’s and catheters. Maintains visual and /or audible contact with patient during treatment. Checks daily patient treatment schedule and delivers prescribed dose. Maintains patient markings. Changes these according to physician’s direction. Documents treatment, in accordance with departmental protocols. Keeps physician informed. Changes therapy as ordered. Takes and checks films of all treated areas; processes and files same. Observes radiation safety measures for patient and personnel.
E. Ensure charges to patients for services rendered are accurately recorded to eliminate and correct errors. Performs weekly billing audits.
Observes patient during therapy procedure for any unusual reactions or events; uses judgment and withholds treatment if indicated by patient’s condition. Reports significant or questionable information to designated supervisory personnel and assists in emergency treatment as appropriate.
Reinforces recommendations given to the patient by the physician, dietitian, and other relevant health care personnel concerning reaction to treatment and care of the radiated area (dressings, hygiene, etc.), prevention or treatment of generalized and local side effects. Changes patient dressings as necessary.
Complies with established department policies, procedures, objectives, quality assurance, safety, environmental and infection control.
Assists with the maintenance of department facilities, equipment, and supplies. Maintains stock levels of supplies and materials. Report maintenance and repair needs to supervisor.
A. Prepares beam therapy equipment for patient treatment; checks beam direction and protective devices (calibrate, temperature, barometric), heavy and dangerous equipment. Keep records of these and report erratic operation to the Biomedical Equipment Technician, Medical Radiation Physicist or other designated personnel.
B. Assists with orientation, supervision, and training of technical staff to ensure competence of the functionality of all therapy related equipment.
Maintains records, reports, and files as required. Collects statistics as directed.
Aids in the training of radiation therapy students as directed.
Attends in-service meetings and others as required.
Qualifications
Education and Experience
<ul>
<li>Graduation from an AMA approved program in Radiation Therapy Technology or Radiologic Technology is required.</li>
<li>Registration as a Radiation Therapy Technologist by the American Registry of Radiologic Technology (ARRT) is required.</li>
<li>Licensure in Radiation Therapy Technology within the state of Maryland is required.</li>
<li>Associate of Science degree in Radiation Therapy Technology is preferred.</li>
<li>One year of clinical practice in Radiation Therapy is preferred.</li>
</ul>
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
<ul>
<li>Knowledge of radiologic technology, radiation therapy, routine nursing procedures, radiation protection and safety procedures. General familiarity with dosimetry, mathematics/physics, anatomy and physiology.</li>
<li>Knowledge of and ability to operate the various types of radiation therapy equipment, such as, linear accelerator and cobalt treatment units, general radiography equipment, simulators, block cutting equipment and personal computers.</li>
<li>Effective verbal and written communication skills are required in order to work with patients, medical and nursing personnel.</li>
<li>Ability to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the patient population(s) served. Ability to demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and ability to assess data reflective of the patient's requirements relative to his or her population-specific and age specific needs.</li>
