ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES 
The Sr. Psychiatric Technician is responsible for supervising residents during scheduled shifts and provides individual support (i.e., life skills) for assigned residents.

BRIEF OUTLINE OF POSITION 
Intake and evaluation of consumers in crisis. 
Assisting in developing individual recovery plans for consumers and preparing them to make the transition to residential programs. 
Provide one to one counseling for those consumers who are having difficulty sleeping and documenting the counseling. 
Assisting consumers with learning and achievement of activities of daily living. 
Completing all documentations as required. 
Review the consumer charts for accuracy of daily documentation. 
Documenting in shift report log. 
Giving a verbal report to the staff of the oncoming shift. 
Contacting immediate supervisor in case of an emergency. 
Supervise mental health technician assigned to the shift.

Perform psychiatric testing/screening evaluations if certified and as directed by government supervisor MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Graduation from an accredited Psychiatric Technician Program; or completion of an equivalent education and experience that meets the requirement of the American Association of Psychiatric Technicians OR Completion of education and experience as a corpsman in the United States military and proof of having completed an Armed Forces course involving neuropsychiatric nursing and an Armed Forces or civilian course from an accredited school in the care of the developmentally disabled client. Possess a National Certification as a Psychiatric Technician from the American Association of Psychiatric Technicians. Psychiatric Technician Qualifications:
<ul>
<li>Experience: One year (1) of experience as a Psychiatric Technician after graduation.</li>
<li>Degree: Certificate
<ul>
<li>Psychiatric Technicians will have the ability to work at NMCSD while working to obtain their Certificate or License (must be obtained within 6 months of hire</li>
</ul>
</li>
<li>Education: Graduation from an accredited Psychiatric Technician Program;
<ul>
<li>Or completion of equivalent education and experience that meets the requirement of the American Association of Psychiatric Technicians </li>
<li>Or completion of education and experience as a behavioral science specialist/technician in the United States military and proof of having completed an Armed Forces course involving a psychiatric technician training</li>
<li>Or civilian course from an accredited school in the care of behavioral health patients</li>
</ul>

<li>Must possess a current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from either the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross. </li>

Psychiatric Technician Job Duties:Patient Care and Safety Management
<ul>
<li>Perform ongoing risk assessment</li>
<li>Assist in maintaining therapeutic milieu</li>
<li>Escort patients safely on and off the unit</li>
<li>Monitor patient safety</li>
<li>Perform physical restraint procedures</li>
<li>Manage agitated patients</li>
<li>Identify and report symptoms of homicidal or suicidal patients</li>
<li>Conduct line of sight one-on-one observations</li>
<li>Respond to emergency situations</li>

Counseling and Rehabilitation

<li>Develop a therapeutic relationship with psychiatric patients</li>

<li>Conduct or assist in treatment and rehabilitation of patients</li>
<li>Conduct group and individual counseling</li>
<li>Conduct therapeutic community and milieu activities</li>
<li>Institute precautionary measures to prevent patient injury or suicide</li>
<li>Assist patients with nutritional, hygiene, and comfort measures</li>
<li>Assist with the care of individuals experiencing acute and post-traumatic stress reactions</li>
</ul>
Coordination and Communication
<ul>
<li>Coordinate with other agencies regarding care, treatment, prevention, rehabilitation, and administrative functions</li>
<li>Contact military and community agencies to obtain collateral information</li>
<li>Explain and interpret mental health services to patients or others</li>
<li>Assist in or arrange patient referrals to public, private, and military community agencies</li>
</ul>
Administrative Duties
<ul>
<li>Organize and facilitate patient groups and activities</li>
<li>Maintain records on patients</li>
<li>Conduct data entry and retrieval on computer systems</li>
<li>Operate outpatient front desk areas</li>
<li>Schedule patient appointments</li>
<li>Coordinate and assist Primary Care Providers</li>
<li>Ensure proper maintenance, construction, and security of records</li>
<li>Prepare and pull outpatient records</li>
<li>Perform End of Day processing</li>
<li>Prepare and maintain treatment records</li>

<h3>Job Description</h3>
Role Responsibilities
Under the direction/supervision of the licensed nursing staff or their designee, the Crisis Center Psychiatric Technician is responsible for providing nursing delegated/assigned services to patients with mental illness in the Crisis Center (involuntary extended observation unit and voluntary crisis residential unit.) The position provides care to individuals with a mental illness and/or a co-occurring substance use/abuse diagnosis along with individuals with a dual diagnosis of mental illness and intellectual or developmental disability. Duties include providing a safe and secure environment for all patients and providing support to nursing staff and the clinical treatment team. In addition, psychiatric technicians are required to prepare food for the patients and perform housekeeping duties in the Crisis Center. Reports directly to the Crisis Center Manager. As needed position utilizing 8 hour shifts (day, eve, night) with flexibility to meet program needs. Responsible and accountable for the adherence to and promotion of the compliance policy.
Salary (plus shift differential for evening/night)

<li>$16.46/hour after 6 months with good performance</li>
<li>$17.33/hour after 1 year with good performance</li>
