Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) | Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) Position Details
<ul>
<li>Performs a variety of laboratory tests on specimens received from the hospital, nursing home, clinic, ER, and outpatient in accordance with department, hospital, and accreditation agencies. </li>
<li>Maintains and troubleshoots instruments and checks and verifies abnormal results as required for quality control.</li>
<li>Collects and/or processes specimens; evaluates specimens for acceptability and serves as a technical resource for the collection process. </li>
<li>Performs laboratory testing in an accurate and timely manner. </li>
<li>Recognizes safety hazards and takes corrective action, seeking assistance when necessary. </li>
<li>Engages positively with patients and visitors, striving to fulfill their needs and requests when possible. </li>

Medical Laboratory Technician(MLT) - FT, Night Shift

<h3>Job Description</h3>
Salary: $32.45hr to $47.08hr DOE

JOB SUMMARY
Ferry County Health Laboratory is located in a critical access hospital and provides access to laboratory services for outpatients, inpatients, ER department, and clinic. This position is a certified laboratory professional with the ability to perform waived, moderate, and high complexity testing in Chemistry, Hematology, Blood Bank, Urinalysis, Coagulation, and Molecular Diagnostics. The desired candidate will be required to perform specimen collections, process and analyze samples in the clinical laboratory, provide quality customer service, and act as a knowledgeable resource for the hospital and community. 
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES: 
<ul>
<li> Performs waived, moderate, and high complexity testing as defined by CLIA (42 CFR 1423 and 1489) - including Blood Bank, Hematology slide reviews/manual differentials, and Urinalysis.</li>
<li> Available to work varying shifts, to include weekends, and after-hours call rotation with a maximum 20 minute response time.</li>
<li> Qualify for and successfully obtain a Medical Assistant-Phlebotomist certificate through the WA DOH within 90 days of hire.</li>
<li> Collects samples: performs phlebotomy, including capillary, venous, and therapeutic phlebotomies; swab collections including nasal, nasopharyngeal, and throat; urine collections for routine testing, drugs of abuse, and chain of custody. Offers patient instructions for proper specimen collection of body fluids if required.</li>
<li> Performs all aspects of the job in an environment that optimizes patient safety and respect, and follows standard precautions at all times.</li>
<li> Maintains quality results by running standards, controls, and calibrators; verifies equipment function through routine equipment maintenance and advanced troubleshooting; monitors quality control measures and protocols.</li>
<li> Processes samples for analysis in the lab or for shipment to the reference lab, evaluates samples for acceptability based on sample and testing requirements, analyzes samples on appropriate equipment, and assesses results for accuracy before releasing to the provider or patient.</li>
<li> Responsible for appropriate stewardship of reagents and supplies in the laboratory, reports needed supplies according to procedure, and helps maintain Blood Bank unit inventory. </li>
<li> Practices strong attention to detail to reduce the likelihood of medical/health care errors while performing sample testing, while recording and reporting results, or while fulfilling other clerical duties in the laboratory.</li>
<li> Supports and maintains a culture of safety and quality.</li>
<li> Able to fulfill duties independently while also working professionally with other laboratory members or with other hospital staff.</li>
<li> Demonstrates the values of a team concept on a consistent basis, and helps maintain a clean and orderly shared workspace.</li>
<li> Maintain certification (if required) through the use of Continuing Education credits (MediaLab subscription provided).</li>
<li> Additional tasks and projects may be assigned as needed or desired.</li>
<li> Perform related duties as assigned by management.</li>

Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT)
MAIN FUNCTION:
Utilizes independent judgement for the collection, processing, and performing both routine and complex laboratory tests using a variety of techniques, instrumentation, and equipment in order to assist the physician in diagnosis and treatment of disease. Exercises professional judgement in order to prioritize and evaluate varying test requests efficiently. Testing of specimens requires knowledge and application of laboratory science techniques, attention to detail and quality control, demonstrated skill with sophisticated testing equipment and computers, as well as trouble-shooting and maintenance skills to maintain accurate functioning of equipment. 
Care will be provided to patients of the following age categories: neonate, infant, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric.

MUST HAVE REQUIREMENTS:

<li>Associates Degree in Laboratory Science (chemical or biological science) or Medical Laboratory Technology from an accredited institution (or the equivalent experience in a laboratory as deemed appropriate by ASCP or CLIA criteria).</li>

Responsibilities
Quality Control * Performs waived, moderate and high complexity testing using manual and automated processes following policies/procedures.
* Prepares reagents, quality control materials and other testing materials.
* Performs required equipment maintenance.
* Assists in data evaluation, and correlation of new instruments/procedures.
* Demonstrates knowledge of open and expiration dates and storage of specimens, QC and reagents.
Computer/Documentation * Demonstrates the understanding of the concept "need to know" for HIPAA for the purpose of relaying information to patients.
* Enters comments, uses RBV for result reporting.
* Calls all critical values to appropriate personnel, using patient full name, second identifier, test name, results and identity of person receiving results.
