About the Opportunity Reporting to the President/CEO of The Baker Center, the Senior Director of the Manville School oversees all of Manville School's operations and, with the Manville School leadership team, provides overall leadership and sets the vision for the school. In partnership with the President/CEO and senior management team, the Senior Director develops and implements strategic goals for the Manville School and ensures that Manville School leadership and staff are working together to achieve successful outcomes. A litigation legal assistant assists the paralegal and attorney from the beginning of a case through the end of the trial or settlement of the case. The legal assistant will gather all documents and organize them so that they can be used throughout the case and the trial. The legal assistant will also perform legal research and prepare case summaries for the paralegal/attorney to review.
MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
<ul>
<li>Keeps cases organized by establishing and organizing files; monitoring calendars; meeting deadlines; documenting actions; putting information into file database for each client/case and confirming case status with paralegal/attorney.</li>
<li>Helps develop cases by maintaining contact with people involved in the case; scheduling plaintiff’s deposition preparations; preparing and forwarding summons; filing complaints; preparing all supporting documents to be sent with discovery requests; preparing all supporting documents to be sent with discovery responses to opposing counsel; generating status reports.</li>
<li>Contacting clients when changes take place relating to their cases such as rescheduling depositions, arbitration, mediation, IME etc</li>
<li>Maintains case costs by verifying outstanding balances with attorney and providers.</li>
<li>Supports case preparation by preparing case summaries and materials for mediations, arbitrations, and depositions which at times entails putting notebooks together.</li>
<li>Enhances trial proceedings by organizing evidence, preparing exhibits, scheduling witnesses and ensuring that witnesses are ready when needed.</li>
<li>For depositions, the assistant will draft the Notice of Deposition, have the attorney sign, send deposition notice to the court reporter and mail deposition to the Defense Attorney.</li>
<li>When notices (deposition, arbitration, mediation) are received, the litigation assistant will calendar date of hearing, schedule preparations with client and calendar the preparation date, calendar the due date for any Arbitration/Mediation Notebooks, and draft letter to client enclosing the notice.</li>
<li>Check attorney’s calendars daily and contact clients the day before any meeting to confirm their attendance.</li>
<li>Assist litigation paralegals in all scanning, mailing, faxing, copying, phone calls, and letter drafting.</li>
<li>Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities and reading professional publications.</li>
<li>Accomplishes organization goals by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments</li>
<li>Ability to perform legal research, prepare trial notebooks, file court documents, organize case files and maintain documents</li>

Qualifications
<ul>
<li>3-5 years of litigation experience</li>
<li>Strong knowledge of federal and state statutes, court rules, forms, processes and procedures</li>
<li>Prior experience answering discovery, trial and mediation preparation</li>
<li>Ability to summarize depositions and medical records</li>
<li>Excellent organizational skills, grammar and deadline oriented.</li>
<li>Be able to adapt in a fast-paced environment and effectively manage a high volume case load</li>
