DESCRIPTION
The summer camp counselor is a part time position located at the REC Center. The camp counselor plans &amp; implements activities, arts and crafts, outdoor activities, sports and games for campers in Kindergarten through 8th grade. In addition, they are responsible for supervision of a group of children, enforcing rules and regulations with participants, assist with daily attendance records, participate in planned activities and assures safety for camp participants.
Requirements:

<li>Must be 17 years of age with at least one year of youth related leadership experience. </li>
<li>Successfully complete pre-employment background check.</li>
<li>Current CPR/AED Certification is required. Decision-making ability, conflict resolution and organizational skills required. </li>

The Camp Leader is responsible for all children participating in the YMCA program. They will implement and facilitate purposeful activities at the site for their designated group. They support the YMCA's promise to strengthen community by interacting with members in a positive and meaningful way. Members are defined as anyone with a current or potential relationship with the Y, such as children, parents, staff, volunteers, community, donors and guests.
EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:

Must be 16 years of age or older. A high school diploma or equivalent is preferred. Experience working with children preferred. Upon hire, must complete Intro to the Ys Cause &amp; Culture, Y's Way to Service &amp; Engagement, and I Hear You: Service with CARE. Within 90 days of hire, Preventing Sexual Abuse Between Young Children, Principles of Youth Development, Youth Relationships: Creating Positive Interactions, and Youth Affirmations: Distinguishing Between Praise and Encouragement trainings required. Within 6 months of hire, Introduction to S.A.F.E., Foundations of Listen First, and Engaging with Families trainings required. CPR/AED, First Aid and Lifeguard certification preferred. Experience with working with children preferred.
SPECIAL SKILLS:
Must be able to supervise and instruct large groups of young children or teens. Knowledge of sports and children's programming preferred.
PHYSICAL AND/OR MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must be able to stand, remain outdoors and maintain continual physical endurance for extended periods of time. Must be able to lift and carry 50 pounds, watch, listen and facilitate group activities. The candidate must also be mentally alert and be able to process and follow directions.

<li>Create a nurturing and safe environment by reporting suspicious activity that may lead to child abuse or may violate the code of conduct. Keep supplies organized, maintain a clean facility and care for equipment.</li>
<li>Create a friendly and welcoming environment for all members of all backgrounds and abilities by role modeling SMART behavior.</li>
<li>Educate members about the services the YMCA offers and further connect them to the YMCA.</li>
<li>Support the strategic work of the YMCA by: a. Creating a culture of volunteerism by educating members about volunteer opportunities. b. Supporting a culture of philanthropy by telling your Y story to others and encouraging them to participate in YMCA fundraising efforts. c. The Brookline Recreation department is seeking qualified, energetic, and compassionate candidates for the 2024 summer camp season. Previous experience with camp programming or previous counselor experience is preferred. Hourly rates are based on camp position. The Summer Camp program will run from July 1, 2024 to August 16, 2024 at three elementary schools in Brookline, Ma. Staff is required to attend 3 days of mandatory training during the week of June 26 – June 28 with specific schedules to be determined. Below is a brief description of the open positions. All candidates will go through a background check through the Criminal and Sexual offender database as required by the Town of Brookline health department.
COUNSELOR

<li>General Responsibilities: Be responsible for the welfare of each individual in the program and do all possible to resolve problems. Assist those campers who may have difficulty fitting into the camp environment. Will take part in swim lessons with campers.</li>
