Danville Community College developed from two institutions, Danville Technical Institute and the Danville Division of Virginia Polytechnic Institute opened in 1936 as Danville Textile School, becoming Danville Technical Institute just after World War II. The Danville Division of Virginia Polytechnic Institute first began as an engineering division in 1946 and was later expanded to include the first two years of course work for all engineering, business administration, liberal arts, and science majors. Beginning in the summer of 1966, all programs taught by Danville Technical Institute were brought under the Virginia Department of Community Colleges. The Berkeley Institute for Data Science (BIDS - <a href="https://apptrkr.com/get_redirect.php?id=5184681&amp;targetURL=https://bids.berkeley.edu" target="_blank">https://bids.berkeley.edu</a>) was founded in 2013 to build on Berkeley's strength in data science with a multidisciplinary emphasis. BIDS aims to facilitate and enhance the development and application of cutting-edge data science techniques in the biological, physical, social and engineering sciences. Today, BIDS is part of the new College of Computing, Data Science and Society (CDSS), where it serves as a hub for interdisciplinary research, tool development, and exchange of ideas between methodologies in computing, statistics and AI. Adjunct Instructor - Political Science

The Department of Political Science at St. Mary's University is conducting a search for a one-year Visiting Assistant Professor faculty position to begin August 2024. The desired applicant should hold a Ph.D. (or be ABD) in political science from an accredited university with a concentration in American politics and a subfield expertise in public law, specifically constitutional law and judicial politics. A secondary subfield in political behavior, theory, civil rights and voting rights, or media and politics is preferred. The ideal candidate will also have some post-secondary teaching experience. Pending budgetary approval, the Department intends to conduct a search for a tenure-track position in these fields of study with a start date of August 2025.

The expected teaching load is four courses per semester. In addition to teaching introductory political science courses, the applicant should be able to offer upper-division undergraduate courses in public law, specifically constitutional law and judicial politics.

The Political Compliance Manager will provide Political Action Committee (PAC) and lobbying compliance and management services to our clients. The incumbent will be responsible for preparing federal and state campaign finance and other regulatory filings for approximately 15 corporate and association clients. Regular tasks include: entering or managing the entry of data in client PAC databases; screening proposed contributions against relevant prohibitions and limits; performing regular bank reconciliations; and, assisting clients in PAC management and internal reporting. In addition, for selected clients, the incumbent will act as primary relationship manager and will be responsible for managing client expectations, communicating project status, increasing customer satisfaction, ensuring customer retention, identifying and pursuing up sell opportunities, and resolving product/business issues experienced by the clients. This position requires extreme attention to detail, ability to manage or switch among multiple tasks rapidly, and ability to meet multiple statutory deadlines.

Duties &amp; Responsibilities:

<li>Prepare and file Federal and State campaign finance reports with appropriate agencies.</li>
<li>Prepare and file lobbying, pay-to-play and non-profit tax forms for clients as needed.</li>
<li>Import or enter receipt and disbursement activity and HR files in PAC software.</li>
<li>Serve as primary point of contact and overall relationship manager for assigned customers.</li>
<li>Perform banking services (account set-up, deposits, check preparation, ledger, and reconciliation) for client PACs.</li>
<li>Track disbursement limits and prohibitions.</li>
<li>Develop detailed operating procedures for each client.</li>
<li>Train clients on the proper use of the software to meet their PAC program goals and objectives.</li>
<li>Prepare financial and PAC management reports.</li>
<li>Prepare letters to accompany disbursements as needed. • Respond to client requests in a timely manner.</li>
<li>Establish and maintain positive relationships with clients.</li>
<li>Assist in new client software conversions and custom programming needs.</li>
<li>Work with Compliance and Development teams to resolve client data or functionality issues.</li>

Requirements

This position will require the lecturer will teach the course in-person on-campus in a 14-week semester schedule.
The capstone course is the culminating experience for students in the Political Analytics program. Students will have the opportunity to tackle a complex, real-world political analytics challenge for a sponsoring organization. The capstone provides students with analytics experience in a “live” setting and is intended to expose students to the problems, timelines, and communications needs of actual political decision-makers.
Working individually or in small teams while being mentored by a program faculty member, students will apply core knowledge, concepts, and frameworks acquired during the program and practice the hands-on skills they have developed in their classes. Throughout the semester, student project teams will interact with the sponsoring organizations as virtual consultants, scoping the problem, acquiring the data, conducting analyses, and ultimately presenting their findings and recommendations to the project sponsor.
