POSITISION OBJECTIVES: The Therapy aide is a non-licensed worker. The aide's primary function is to perform designated routine tasks related to the operation of the Therapy service and may assist with patient-related activities, which are predetermined for each patient and assigned by the therapist.
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

<li>Prepare, maintain and clean-up workstations, treatment areas and the gym.</li>

Teach, supervise, and counsel the family and patient in the total Occupational Therapy program and other related problems of the patient at home. 
Establish goals based on the patient's current level of functioning and potential for improvement and performs re-evaluations as indicated. 
Makes arrangement for outpatient services when procedures are required that cannot be given in the home. 
Evaluate the effectiveness of occupational therapy intervention and updates the patient care plan as needed. 
Prepare clinical/progress notes on the day of the visit which are incorporated into the chart within 72 hours. 
Communicate with the physician on a regular basis regarding patient's status, obtaining additional orders, if necessary. 
Communicate with other team members and, when appropriate, instructs them in Occupational Therapy techniques that they may use while working with the patient. 
Supervise the Home Health Aide per agency policy when Occupational Therapy is the only professional discipline involved in the patient's care. 
Supervise the Occupational Therapy Assistant at least per agency policy. 
Participate in Agency activities, in-services, and meetings, when appropriate. 
Confirm, on a weekly basis, the scheduling of visits with the Clinical Manager in order to coordinate Agency visits. 
Participate with the staff, the patient, and the physician in discharge activities and completes an Occupational Therapy Discharge Summary. 
Assume responsibility for self-development by continually striving to improve his/her healthcare knowledge through educational programs, attendance at workshops and conferences, active participation in professional and related organizations, and individual research and reading.

The ability to drive and the ability to access patients' homes which may not be routinely wheelchair accessible are required.

On occasion, may be required to bend, stoop, reach, and move patient weight up to 250 pounds; lift and/or carry up to 30 pounds. 
Must be able to effectively communicate in English.

<h3>Job Description</h3>
The primary responsibility of the Occupational Therapist (OT) is to plan, delegate and provide safe and competent occupational therapy interventions as ordered by physician. In this role, you are entrusted to ensure that the highest degree of quality care can be provided to our villagers at all times.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Villager Care Duties:
<ul>
<li>Provide occupational therapy assessments as well as develop and implement individualized treatment plans to increase client's independence and functioning</li>
<li>Supervise Occupational Therapy Assistants, temporary licensees, students and support personnel in accordance with state licensure requirements and professional standards</li>
<li>Identify need to make referrals to other disciplines to address comprehensive care needs of the client</li>
<li>Demonstrate competent technical skills according to current Occupational Therapy standards of practice</li>
<li>Communicate changes in villager's condition</li>
<li>Participate in collaborative care conferences</li>
<li>Participate in discharge and community mobility planning</li>
<li>Prescribe necessary durable medical equipment to facilitate independence</li>
<li>Provide accurate and timely billing records and supervise supporting clinical documentation</li>
<li>Respond to family requests and concerns timely</li>
<li>Coordinate and provide training with Restorative Nursing and other Care staff</li>
<li>Assure villager abuse or neglect does not occur</li>
<li>Provide education and training to patient, caregiver, and community partners</li>
<li>Observe confidentiality and safeguards for all patient information</li>
</ul>

Department Duties:
<ul>
<li>Assist with training and education of facility and professional partners</li>
<li>Perform screening rounds as directed by Director of Rehabilitation to assess for client needs and environmental safety</li>
<li>Provide recommendations to Director of Rehab and other team members opportunities for business improvement, safety concerns or other updates</li>
<li>Participation in OT/OTA student development and educational programs</li>
<li>Ensure compliance with mandatory education, training and competency programs</li>
<li>Assist in maintaining cleanliness and tour readiness of the therapy department</li>
<li>Performs other duties as assigned</li>
</ul>
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/JOB TRAINING
<ul>
<li>Experience in providing appropriate care in post-acute or long-term care environment (preferred)</li>
<li>Current, unencumbered, active Colorado NBCOT License (required)</li>
<li>National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy</li>
<li>Complete an educational council for occupational federation of occupational Therapist. (PER DORA)</li>
<li>CPR (as requested)</li>
<li>Must possess, as a minimum, a high school diploma or its equivalent. (AA Degree in Business Administration preferred but not necessary.)</li>
<li>Must have basic computer knowledge.</li>
</ul>

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:
<ul>
<li>Effective and efficient time management skills</li>
<li>Sufficient verbal and written communication skills to perform the tasks required</li>
<li>Previous experience and knowledge to provide appropriate care in post acute or long term care environment (preferred)</li>
<li>Knowledge of current Colorado occupational therapy practices and procedures including laws, regulations and guidelines that pertain to nursing care facilities</li>
<li>Current, unencumbered, active Colorado Occupational Therapy License (required) Current NBCOT certification</li>
<li>CPR as requested</li>
</ul>
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
<ul>
<li>Works in all areas of the facility</li>
<li>Moves intermittently during working hours</li>
<li>Is subject to frequent interruptions</li>
<li>Is involved with villagers, personnel, visitors, government agencies/personnel, etc., under all conditions and circumstances</li>
<li>Is subject to hostile and emotionally upset villagers, family members, etc</li>
<li>Communicates with facility staff and department supervisors</li>
<li>May work beyond normal duty hours, on weekends, nights, and in other positions temporarily, when necessary</li>
<li>Is subject to call back during emergency conditions (e.g., severe weather, evacuation, post-disaster, etc.)</li>
<li>Is subject to injury from falls, burns from equipment, odors, etc., throughout the workday, as well as reactions from dust, disinfectants, tobacco smoke, and other air contaminants</li>
<li>Is subject to exposure to infectious waste, diseases, conditions, etc., including TB and the AIDS and Hepatitis B viruses</li>
<li>May be subject to the handling of and exposure to hazardous chemicals</li>
<li>Must not pose a direct threat to the health or safety of other individuals in the workplace</li>
<li>Must be familiar with the laws, regulations, and guidelines governing personnel administration</li>
<li>Must possess the ability to plan, organize, develop, implement, and interpret the programs, goals, objectives, policies, procedures, etc</li>
</ul>

PHYSICAL AND SENSORY REQUIREMENTS (with or without aide of medical devices)
Frequent squatting, twisting, and reaching;
Frequent walking and standing
Occasional villager handling, transferring and lifting from floor over 100 pounds
Occasional crawling, climbing, and sitting; frequent repetitive pushing, pulling, and grasping up to 50 pounds

<li>Organizing, cleaning, and maintaining clinic materials</li>
<li>Assists therapists with children when they need assistance </li>
<li>Translating for therapists or children </li>
<li>Preparation of classes and sessions materials </li>
<li>Assist patients and their families with the transition to and from therapy</li>
<li>Participate in sessions with therapists to help therapists achieve clinical outcomes, interacting with patients during therapy activities as directed by therapist (e.g. singing songs, assisting with art activities, etc)</li>
<li>Performing administrative and clerical duties.</li>
<li>Assist with greeting clients and client registration </li>
<li>Preparing Therapy Sessions </li>
</ul>
Requirements
<ul>
<li>High School Diploma or equivalent.</li>
<li>Bilingual in Spanish </li>
<li>At least three years of experience working with children.</li>
<li>Bilingual (English/Spanish) is required at some locations</li>
<li>Ability to acquire a Fingerprint Clearance Card.</li>
<li>Self-Motivated</li>
<li>Must be comfortable speaking to clients and staff members  </li>

What you will do:

<ul>
<li>Keeping the clinic neat and maintaining an organized environment by placing things in their designated locations.</li>
<li>Wiping down the clinic tables daily.</li>
<li>Responsible for putting laundry away when it arrives as well as stocking the cabinets as needed.</li>
<li>Assisting the therapists with their patient as needed. This includes triaging patients to the clinic area, setting patients up on stimulators, ice, heat, bringing the therapists patient charts, copying and printing exercises, as well as any other duties as assigned.</li>
<li>Helping with filing, checking in and out patients, confirming appointments, or any other front desk duties as needed.</li>
<li>Maintaining and ordering inventory of medical supplies on hand for therapists. Ordering bathroom and kitchen supplies.</li>
<li>Performing all other tasks and projects assigned by the manager.</li>
<li>Maintaining detailed knowledge of practice management and other computer software as it relates to job functions.</li>
<li>Maintaining patient confidentiality; complying with HIPPA and compliance guidelines established by the practice.</li>
<li>Reporting any problems to management.</li>
<li>Being within eye sight/ear shot of therapists.</li>
<li>Anticipates schedule of patients and helps therapist accordingly.</li>
<li>Stocking all areas before going to break, lunch, or leaving for the day</li>
<li>Communicates with staff regarding his/her schedule (time-off or being early/late)</li>
<li>Other duties as assigned.</li>
