Summary: 
Under the supervision of the Dental Hygiene Supervisor, primary function is to provide high quality hygiene services to Dental Center patients. Additional functions will include and not be limited to: administrative tasks related to patient care including data entry into Electronic Dental Record. Hygienist is cognizant of the philosophy, standards, objectives and policies of the Dental Center and the Funds.

Responsibilities:

<li>Performs basic hygiene procedures including: prophylaxis, debridement, polishing, oral hygiene instructions, nutritional counseling, topical fluoride and sealant application</li>
<li>Performs advanced therapeutic procedures including scaling and root planing, periodontal maintenance prophylaxis</li>
<li>Administers local anesthetics for hygiene procedures as directed by a dentist</li>
<li>Proficient in the use of piezo-electric devices and intra-oral cameras</li>
<li>Assesses home care skills and practices of patients and provides guidance and education to support the patients’ home care efforts</li>
<li>Obtains vital signs as needed</li>
<li>Obtains medical history of patients</li>
<li>Proficient in obtaining radiographic surveys including full mouth series, vertical bite-wings, and panographic images using digital equipment as prescribed by a dentist</li>
<li>Completes comprehensive periodontal charting as needed</li>
<li>Prepare treatment rooms for hygiene services as needed following accepted infection control standards as needed</li>
<li>Collaborates with dentist for the purpose of formulating periodontal treatment plans for patients</li>
<li>Appropriate and accurate communication and notations in Electronic Dental Record for all patient encounters using departmental standards and protocols</li>
<li>Communicates with all team members involved in patient’s care, including clerical staff, Dental Assistants, Hygienists, Dentists and supervisors where appropriate to enhance patient care</li>
<li>Participate in any/all of the Dental Center improvements geared towards operational excellence</li>

Dental Director:

<li>Leads, supervises, and evaluates all staff dentists, dental hygienists, and Dental Assistants. Engage staff through effective coaching, mentoring, training, and team building. Conduct or oversee staff performance appraisals. Manages employee time and attendance, including requests for time off.</li>
<li>Establishes dental program goals and objectives, with involvement of staff and advisors, consistent with BPHC policy directives and Terry Reilly goals and policies. Assures appropriate proportions of preventive, restorative, and emergency work.</li>
<li>Regularly develops and/or modifies existing Terry Reilly dental program policies and procedures to cover all aspects of a well-run, efficient, high quality dental program that promotes easy access for Terry Reilly's target populations. Assures that all staff are aware of and conversant with all policies and procedures pertaining to their respective roles.</li>
<li>Exercises leadership in arranging for students/residents to do placements in Terry Reilly dental clinics to the maximum extent feasible and desirable. Provides the necessary orientation, guidance, supervision, and evaluation of students/residents.</li>
<li>Collaborates with the Director of Clinic Operations to assure smooth functioning of all aspects of the business side of the dental operations.</li>
<li>Collaborates with the Chief Medical Officer and Director of Behavioral Health on strategies which support integrated teams, operations, and patient care delivery.</li>

<li>Regularly reviews dental fee schedules, charges and collections and collaborates with the Chief Financial Officer, Director of Clinic Operations and Chief Executive Officer to implement proposed changes and improvements which support the revenue cycle.</li>
<li>Provide leadership on facility and equipment projects and purchases which provide a positive work environment and quality patient care.</li>
<li>Promotes effective teamwork among dental program staff. Seek opportunities to grow and develop dental leadership team.</li>
<li>Provides leadership and mentoring of Dental Assistant Supervisors to help grow and retain dental staff.</li>
<li>Assesses and implements contract and reimbursement opportunities which support and expand the reach of dental services.</li>
<li>Actively participates in the corporate meetings and responsibilities.</li>
<li>Represents Terry Reilly in community and professional events. Makes occasional public presentations about the dental program and/or dental issues. Participates in the local dental professional society.</li>

General Dentist: Performs all duties and responsibilities of a general dentist at Terry Reilly concurrently.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
<ol>
<li>Graduate from an accredited Dental School with a D.D.S. or D.M.D. degree.</li>
<li>Licensed Dentist to provide care in the State of Idaho.</li>
<li>5 years' prior experience as a direct or indirect supervisor of employees, including recruitment, selection, and evaluation of such employees.</li>
<li>Some prior experience managing business-related budgets.</li>
<li>Better than average understanding of dental public health issues.</li>
<li>Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.</li>
<li>Strong working knowledge of computer software systems including EHR, Microsoft suite, etc.</li>

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

<li>Prior experience directly supervising other dentists.</li>
