<li>Schedule: Dental Assistant services shall be provided Monday through Friday, between the hours of 0630 and 1600. Shifts will normally be scheduled for an eight and a half (8.5) to nine (9) hour period, to include an uncompensated thirty (30) to sixty (60) minute lunch break, respectively. In no instance will the health care worker (HCW) be required to provide services in excess of forty (40) hours per week.</li>

The Dental Assistant must have and meet the following:

<li>Degree: Certificate or associate degree.</li>
<li>Education: Successful completion of a one of the following:
<ul>
<li>Certificate or associate degree as a dental assistant/technician from a program accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) of the American Dental Association (ADA) and 12 months experience within the preceding 36 months.</li>
<li>Certification from a military dental technician or dental assistant school and 12 months experience within the preceding 36 months.</li>
<li>Certification from a Red Cross Dental Assistant course and 12 months experience within the preceding 36 months.</li>
<li>36 months experience within the preceding 60 months as a dental assistant in a private practice or a military clinic.</li>
<li>Membership in good standing with the American Association of Dental Assistants with required. Continuing education and 12 months’ experience within the preceding 36 months.</li>
<li>Graduation from a state accredited program for dental assistants or dental technology within the preceding 12 months.</li>

</li>
<li>All training must have included a course in radiation physics; radiation biology; radiation health, safety, and protection; X-ray films and radiographic film quality; radiographic techniques; darkroom and processing techniques; film mounting; and digital radiographic processing techniques.</li>
<li>Equivalency Determination Request: The Contractor may not request an equivalency determination as a substitute for education requirements.</li>

Dental Assistant General Duties:
<ul>
<li>Contractor personnel shall perform a full range of duties consistent with their labor category, education, training, experience, clinical privileges (as applicable), and assigned position. General duties that apply to all personnel or across certain labor categories are given below.</li>
<li>Maintain a level of productivity comparable with that of other individuals performing similar services.</li>
<li>Participate in peer review and performance improvement activities.</li>
<li>Practice aseptic techniques as necessary. Comply with infection control guidelines to include the proper handling, storage, and disposal of infectious wastes, and the use of universal precautions to prevent the spread of infection.</li>

<li>Operate and manipulate automated systems such as CHCS, CDS/CDA, DENTRIX, MHS Genesis and Clinical Information System (CIS), participate in clinical staff Performance Improvement (PI) and Risk Management (RM) functions, as prescribed by the Commander. Maintain DOD email account as directed.</li>
<li>The HCW shall be responsive to all email and voicemail communications.</li>
<li>Exercise appropriate clinical delegation of tasks and duties in the clinical direction and coordination of health care team members, patient care, and clinic activities.</li>
<li>Maintain documentation of all treatment provided in accordance with clinic directives and prepare such records and reports as may be required. All records and reports must be legible. Abbreviations must be only those listed in local instructions.</li>
</ul>
Dental Assistant Core Duties:
<ul>
<li>Responsible for performing a full range of dental assisting procedures in support of Dental Officer examinations and delivery of treatment under the "four handed dentistry" format within the personnel and equipment capabilities and limitations of the Dental Treatment Facility</li>
<li>The HCW shall aid in the provision of mandated dental surveillance and preventive services and assist in ensuring the quality and timeliness of treatment records and reports required to document procedures performed and care provided.</li>
<li>The HCW shall also refer patients who present with a complaint to staff dentists for evaluation and continuation of care and attend multidisciplinary treatment team meetings on behalf of the dental officers.</li>
<li>The HCW shall:
<ul>
<li>Maintain patient records in accordance with Joint Commission and DTF/MTF requirements.</li>
<li>Assist during administration of anesthesia.</li>
<li>Assist in placement and removal of sutures.</li>
<li>Dispose of contaminated waste in accordance with the standard procedures of the DTF/MTF.</li>
<li>Maintain operatory to meet the clinic's cleanliness and infection control standards. These clinical duties do not include mopping, sweeping or taking trash to an industrial dumpster.</li>
</ul>
</li>
<li>This is a personal services contract for clinical services; however, as time permits, the HCW may be assigned other duties consistent with the normal duties of a dental assistant as directed by the Commanding Officer. These duties include, but are not limited to, working at the appointments desk, performing Central Sterile Supply functions, and participating in command quality improvement and assurance meetings, etc.</li>
<li>As a member of a professional team, the HCW shall contribute in a positive manner to team building and morale.</li>
<li>Under government supervision and the clinical direction of a dentist, all dental assistants may be allowed to participate in Expanded Functions training program and certification in accordance with all current and relevant BUMED and DHA instructions and local directives at the Commanding Officer's discretion.</li>

Responsible for the billing and collections of physician claims. This position will file physician claims for reimbursement, including electronic and paper submissions. Monitor physician systems, billing and patient accounting system, department reports, taking corrective action to ensure accuracy in claim filing to payers. The Ambulatory Coordinator I will function in accordance with federal, state, and local laws; rules and regulations; and policies, procedures and guidelines of the employing health care institution or practice setting. This position is also responsible for consistent commercial insurance follow-up of physician claim(s) greater than 30 days, aged from final bill date, and resolution of same in a timely and cost-effective manner. This requires forming relationships with the individual insurance payers/clients in order to have the maximum response for timely and accurate payment. Monitor patient accounts assigned for accurate payment(s) or non-payment and take compliant actions for account reimbursement.
