Position Summary
The Senior Director,Strategy and Operations for Medical Advancement is responsible forfacilitating the administration of the Vice Chancellor’s duties andexecuting their strategic priorities. The position will workclosely with the Vice Chancellor, members of the VC’s leadershipteam, and staff throughout Medical Advancement to advancedepartmental priorities, implement new initiatives, and optimizeworkflow and efficiency.

Job Description
Primary Duties & Responsibilities

  • Serve as a thought partner and strategist to the ViceChancellor and Medical Advancement Senior Leadership Team withregard to the evolution of areas under the Vice Chancellor’soversight.
  • Work closely with the VC to manage the VC’s personalfundraising responsibilities related to caseload activity, donorstrategy and communications.
  • With guidance from the VC, set meeting agendas for MedicalAdvancement, create and generate weekly, monthly, and annualreports necessary to keep track of progress for MedicalAdvancement. Serve as a resource related to portfolio managementand coordination with Chairs and other key faculty.
  • Provide leadership on strategic priorities and projects forareas under the VC’s purview as assigned and represent the VC inkey meetings and oversee the execution of action items.
  • Serve as the liaison between the Vice Chancellor and staff toimprove workflow, secure answers and approvals in a timely manner,and ensure fulfillment on projects for which the AVC is integral.Establish and maintain a deep familiarity with core programmaticand operational activities across the department, including regularengagement with UA staff, and other key partners andstakeholders. 
  • Provide leadership in enhancing communication and facilitatingresolutions surrounding departmental issues and concerns.
  • Assist VC with management of daily operational functions ofMedical Advancement team.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the VC.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree.
  • Experience in major gift fundraising, preferably in academicmedicine or healthcare setting.
  • Keen understanding of academic medicine.
  • Demonstrated ability to design and implement effectivecultivation, solicitation, and stewardship strategies forindividual giving.
  • Honesty, integrity, enthusiasm, and perspective; a very strongwork ethic, supported by commitment and follow through.
  • Well-developed project-management skills.  Organizationalskills and attention to detail are essential.
  • Superior communication skills, both verbal and business writingskills. 
  • Deep appreciation for and an ability to successfully articulatethe mission and aspirations of Washington University and WashingtonUniversity School of Medicine. 
  • Strong track record in helping plan, coordinate, and managecomplex projects and campaigns. 
  • Ability to listen carefully, learn quickly, and workeffectively in a complex, matrixed organization. 
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and desire to workcollaboratively; demonstrated ability to build and maintainrelationships with key stakeholders across University Advancementand the School of Medicine.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Minimum of six years of related experience.

Salary Range
The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in agiven job grade across the University. Individual rates within therange will be determined by factors including one's qualificationsand performance, equity with others in the department, market ratesfor positions within the same grade and department budget.
