Responsible for assisting surgeons during intraoperative procedures. Privileges under
the direct supervision of the surgeon include the following:
Responsibilities
Safety
· Manages processes effectively in regard to employee/patient safety.
Record Keeping
· Maintains all required records, reports, statistics, logs, files and other documents as required.
· Process Improvement
· Promotes a culture of process improvement by participating in unit/department based programs that supports the system’s process improvement goals.
· Actively participates on system-wide or hospital-based teams as needed.
Roles and Responsibilities
· Assist surgeon with gowning, gloving, prepping and draping.
· Facilitate safe positioning of patient according to the surgeon’s preference, patient’s anatomical and physiological limits, and surgical procedure to be performe
· Assist surgeon with passing instruments or suture and basic assisting.
· Provides exposure, assists in achieving homeostasis with surgeon’s super
· Provides manipulation and dissection and / or removal of tissues, aids in implanting, securing, and/or removal of devises and dra
· Performs layered closure of surgical sites utilizing appropriate techniques according to individual surgeon preference.
· Applies appropriate dressing material specific to procedur
· Applies splints or casts specific to procedure and/ or injury.
· Assesses skin integrity and assists in transfer of patient post- operativ

Qualifications
Education
· Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing
Licenses and Certification
· Current Illinois Registered Nurse License
· Certification (CNOR) for Certified First Assist
Experience and Skills
· Technical Experience: 2 years of OR experience
