Position Summary:
Evaluates and selects life insurance risks to contribute to favorable mortality and morbidity results. Knowledge working with Securian's life products and their provisions in the Individual and Affinity Solutions markets.

Responsibilities include but not limited to:
Evaluates and selects life insurance risks to contribute to favorable mortality results. Processes applications through a variety of distribution channels and/or assigned firms. Operates relatively independently in approving risks, influencing the mortality experience of the company. Partners with more experienced underwriters in making recommendations for medically impaired clients.
Performs phases of life risk selection including medically impaired risks in the personal and business insurance markets including analyzing the following elements: medical history, financial situation and history, occupational situation, aviation and avocation risks, habits and lifestyle risks and fraud risk.
Communicates underwriting assessments to customers and/or channel partners. Maintains strong relationships with Home Office associates, reinsurers, and vendors to serve and support all channels of distribution. Handles complex customer interactions. Manages and owns relationships with external clients, producers and firms.
Qualifications:
Knowledge working with Securian's life products and their provisions in the Individual and Affinity Solutions markets. Exposure with other Securian products/riders including joint life, multi-life, disability, and chronic illness.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills to respond to customers about underwriting decisions or other questions about their underwriting experience.
Communication skills to build professional relationships with Home Office associates and clients.
Analytical and decision-making skills to assist in achieving expected mortality results while meeting productivity, service, and expense results.
Understanding of medical terms, diagnoses, co-conditions, and anatomy to effectively interpret and assess medical information provided. Understanding of the non-medical factors impacting insurance selection, including lifestyle behaviors, avocation, and financial.
Physical Job Requirements:
Ability to utilize keyboard, mouse and computer for up to 8 hours per day
Ability to utilize telephone for 4-6 hours per day
Ability to perform grasping tasks 1-2 hours per day (examples: handwriting, grasping of equipment/machines, paper manipulation, sorting, folding, handling stacks of paper)
Ability to meet the physical demands of travel - approximately 1 -5 times per year. This includes the ability to operate a motor vehicle as well as an ability to utilize air travel
Ability to be mobile periodically throughout entire workday
