Overview:

The Employee Benefits Solutions finance team is looking for a motivated and analytical problem solver to join our dynamic business area as a Financial Reporting Accountant. Working with a broad array of products and clients—with a particular emphasis on the large employer group insurance market and a significant array of reinsurance programs–our team prepares the accounting entries for our GAAP and Statutory financial statements, and also manages the financial agreements associated with some of our larger clients' unique plan designs. In addition, we work closely with auditors (both internal and external) and prepare numerous schedules and exhibits for internal and external reporting requirements, including rating agency presentations, blue book financial schedules, and internal data and metric preparation for senior management.

Responsibilities Include but Not Limited To:

  • Prepares Group division financial reporting and ensures timely and accurate processing

  • Ensures the compliance, accuracy and completeness of the allocation of Group premiums to facilitate the accurate payment of premium tax

  • Ensures the accuracy of accounting transactions processed within the business area

  • Supports the preparation and communication of financial information for auditors, insurance examiners, rating agencies, insurance agencies, and company leaders

  • Prepares amendments to financial-related contracts for the business area ensuring the language and accounting accurately reflects the intention of the agreement and follows accounting and legal rules, regulations and guidelines

  • Participates in projects related to financial reporting or financial contracts

    Qualifications:

  • Accounting experience in statutory, management-based, tax and GAAP for financial reporting and budgeting

  • Bachelor’s degree (preferably in Accounting, Finance, or Math)

  • Demonstrated leadership and initiative to serve as a resource for team members and independently manage projects

  • Written and verbal communication skills to provide superior customer service to a variety of business partners

  • Demonstrated analytical skills to review and analyze financial statements and reports

  • Understanding of programming and analytical skills to understand the structure of the data within financial and administration systems

  • Excellent attention to detail

  • Ability to effectively multi-task and meet prescribed deadlines on a continuous basis

  • Ability to work overtime at quarter end and other peak times

    Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of life and health insurance concepts and products

  • Reinsurance accounting experience

    Physical Job Requirements:

  • Ability to work at least 40 hours per week

  • Ability to utilize keyboard, mouse and computer for up to 3-6 hours per day

  • Ability to utilize telephone for approximately 1-4 hours per day

  • Ability to perform simple grasping including handwriting, paper manipulation, sorting, folding, etc. periodically throughout entire workday
