Job Summary:
The Financial Aid Assistant serves as a support staff position providing support for the office of financial aid in the areas of front desk/customer service, collection, audit, and review of financial aid application materials, award notification preparation, communications with students and families, and assistance with general office purchasing, billing, and other administrative duties as needed.

This is a full-time (35 hours per week), 12-month, non-exempt (hourly) benefits eligible position.

Job Duties:

1. Communication and Customer Service

Maintains a general knowledge of the broad aspects of University, Federal, and State Financial Aid Programs. Answer and greet the Office of Financial Aid students, parents, and other visitors in person and on the phone in a courteous, responsive, and efficient manner while maintaining student and family confidentiality.

2. Financial Aid Application Review and Preparation

Understand federal income tax returns and requirements regarding the financial aid application criteria. Review and audit submitted documentation. Communicate with families regarding the financial aid application process, requirements, and documentation. Upload and record application documentation in both the Banner and Etrieve systems.

3. Financial Aid Award Notification Preparation

Prepare financial aid award notification packets in coordination with the Office of Admission. Communicate regularly with financial aid applicants regarding award changes throughout the academic year. Coordinate any office mailings for prospective and current students.

4. Office Administration

Serve as the backup to the Financial Aid Office coordinator in managing and maintaining office billing, facilities work orders, and any other requests about the Office of Financial Aid operation

5. Office Coordination with Staff

Assist the Financial Aid Counselors and Associate Directors with any items related to study abroad, entrance/exit counseling, and on-campus financial aid events.

Perform various departmental duties as requested by supervisors or staff in the department.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma
  • Customer service-related experience



Knowledge and Skills:

  • Must be organized, analytical, detail-oriented, able to multi-task and work independently
  • Accuracy and attention to detail are imperative
  • Ability to collaborate with others and exercise sensitivity to matters of confidentiality
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Commitment to student service



Preferred Qualifications:

  • Associate's degree
  • Experience in Higher-Education
  • Customer Service related work experience



Physical Requirements:

  • Able to remain standing or sitting for extended periods of time
  • Able to move up to 10 pounds
  • Able to work indoors, office setting

The offer rate will be based on a review of the candidate's credentials compared to the qualifications of the position, internal equity, and our overall compensation philosophy.

This role is not budgeted for visa sponsorship at this time, all candidates must be authorized to work in the US at the time of submission of the application.
