Role Description
This is a PRN in-home role for a Caregiver (or In-Home Services Worker) located in the Greater Chicagoland Area.
Duties and Responsibilities
The Caregiver will be responsible for providing the following non-skilled or non-medical assistance:
- Observation of client functioning and reporting changes to the Manager/Administrator/Supervisor or to a person designated by the client.
- Assistance with household chores, including cooking and meal preparation, cleaning and laundry.
- Assistance in completing activities such as shopping and appointments outside of the home.
- Companionship.
- Completion of appropriate records documenting service provision
- Assistance with activities of daily living and personal care.
To delineate the types of services that can be provided by a home services worker, the following are examples of acceptable tasks:
- Skin Care
- Ambulation
- Bathing
- Dressing
- Exercise
- Feeding
- Hair Care
- Mouth Care
- Nail Care
- Positioning
- Shaving
- Toileting
- Transfers
- Medication Reminding
- Respiratory Care
Qualifications
- Must not have a disqualifying background check under the requirements of the Health Care Worker Background Check Act without a waiver.
- Must have a visa or proof of citizenship in compliance with federal requirements for employment.
- Must be able to stand at ease for a minimum of 20-minute intervals.
- Must be able to climb one flight of stairs comfortably while carrying at least 15 pounds.
- Must be able to walk and run on rough ground and uneven surfaces.
- Must be able to lift at least 30 pounds from the ground to a chair or bed.
- Must be able to pull and push at least 30 pounds.
- Must be able to bend, kneel, squat, twist, squat, crawl, and climb.
- Should have a compassionate and caring attitude.
- Must be self-motivated and eager to learn.
- Should be reliable and an excellent timekeeper.
- He or she must also possess excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Must have the ability to work under little or no supervision.
- Must have the ability to work well under pressure and change.
- Should be non-judgmental and willing to respect clients and co-workers as well.
- Must have a full understanding of Private Duty Non-Medical legislation and regulations.
- Computer skills are also a necessity.
- Must have a clean driving history and must possess a current driver’s license
- Must have a dependable mode of transportation/vehicle.
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray upon hire with written documentation of “history of positive PPD by a physician”, provide chest X-ray per CDC guidelines, and annual TB symptom check off by a physician.
