About the Role
We are seeking a detail-oriented and dependable Bookkeeper to join our small but growing custom home construction company. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a hands-on environment, enjoys wearing multiple hats, and is comfortable working closely with project managers and leadership. The Staff Accountant will support day-to-day accounting activities, ensure accurate financial reporting, and help maintain solid financial controls across the organization.
Key Responsibilities
Daily & Weekly Accounting

Record daily transactions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger entries.

Process vendor invoices, verify purchase orders, match supporting documents, and resolve discrepancies.

Post payments and manage aging reports.

Reconcile bank, credit card, and petty cash accounts.
Construction-Specific Duties

Assist with job cost tracking, including labor, materials, subcontractor expenses, and equipment allocation.

Maintain subcontractor files, collect W-9s, COIs (Certificates of Insurance), and verify compliance requirements.

Help with payroll preparation, including reviewing timesheets, verifying job coding, and tracking prevailing wage or certified payroll when required.
Month-End & Year-End Support

Prepare journal entries, accruals, and account reconciliations.

Assist in preparing monthly financial statements and budget-to-actual reports.

Support external accountants during tax preparation and annual reviews.
Operational Support

Maintain orderly digital and physical filing systems.

Assist with inventory tracking, fixed asset management, and equipment cost allocation.

Provide general administrative support to project managers and the operations team as needed.

Identify opportunities for process improvements and enhanced internal controls.
Qualifications

Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.

1–3 years of accounting experience; experience in construction accounting preferred.

Familiarity with QuickBooks.

Strong understanding of journal entries, debits/credits, and GAAP basics.

Proficiency with Excel (VLOOKUP, pivot tables a plus).

Excellent attention to detail, organizational skills, and follow-through.

Ability to work independently in a small team and handle multiple priorities.
