About the role
Monitors loan portfolio and mitigates risk exposure for all bank affiliates. Analyzes all types of credit requests, including complex relationships with larger dollar and higher risk exposure. Responsible for implementing mitigating measures to reduce risk exposure throughout the loan approval process, and during regular review of existing portfolio. Conducts annual reviews, working cross-functionally with compliance, operations, finance and other departments.
This position is located in our Huron branch and is not a remote role.
What you will do
- Reviews consumer & commercial loan file documentation for accuracy and compliance with approval requirements and loan policy.
- Evaluates quality of loans and makes recommendations based on risk exposure to the bank, based on borrower’s financial strength and probability of loan repayment.
- Provides recommendations to remove and/or mitigate risk exposure to the bank as identified.
- Coordinates annual review of bank portfolio to assess loan portfolio quality and health, implements mitigating measures when necessary.
- Consistently monitors portfolio and identifies opportunities for risk revenue opportunities and/or loan exposure.
- Advises on loans that require modification/restructure.
- Understands, detects, and reports the early warning signs of problem credits. Minimizes the risk of credit loss to maintain appropriate risk ratings on all loans.
- Partners with various departments to compile reports and conduct reviews.
- Participates in on-site conversion of acquired banks, including assisting in the conversion of portfolio data, initiating renewal requests and training bank staff.
- Works with management to help develop CECL (Current Expected Credit Losses).
- Make recommendations to change loan policy, where appropriate.
- Other duties as assigned.
What you will need
- Bachelor’s degree in finance, business administration, or related field preferred.
- Minimum of 3-7 years of commercial credit analysis related experience.
- Experience in a community bank, with exposure to Commercial, Real Estate, and Agricultural loans preferred.
- Strong analytical skills and an understanding of general economic theory as it relates to the lending and business environment.
- Understanding of credit analysis, risk analysis, and accounting and finance principles.
- Thorough knowledge of commercial and agricultural lending, credit and appropriate banking laws and regulations.
- Strong credit underwriting skills. Experience in credit structuring and prudently accommodating customer credit needs.
