RESPONSIBLE TO: SUPERVISING NURSE

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Assists the physician in evaluating and treating children and adults with speech, language and swallowing.

2. Helps people develop effective communication skills

  1. Helps people with articulation disorders and provide treatment to learn proper production of speech sounds.
  2. Helps people who stutter to speak more fluently.

5. Assists people with voice disorders to improve disorders.

6. Assists people who have difficulty swallowing as a result of illness, surgery,

stroke or injury.

  1. Helps people with Aphasia to relearn speech and language skills.
  2. Evaluates, selects, and develops augmentative and alternative communication systems (such as voice synthesizing computers and communication boards) for people with severe speech problems.
  3. Enhances communication effectiveness – improving everyday communication skills, such as pitch, projection, accent and nonverbal communication.
  4. Conducting research to develop new and better ways to evaluate and treat speech, language, and swallowing problems.
  5. Advising clients, family members and communities on ways to prevent speech and language disorders.

12. Prepare clinical and progress notes and submits them to the office in a timely manner.

13. Attend staff meetings, participates in in services, and case conferences.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Must be currently licensed by the State Board of Examiners for Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology. One (1) year of experience in speech-language therapy care setting that requires complete speech-language assessments; or demonstrated ability or education in same areas is preferred.
