The Climate Reality Project was founded by former US Vice President Al Gore with a mission to catalyze a global solution to the climate crisis by making urgent action a necessity across every sector of society. Our global network totals more than 3.8 million people from more than 190 countries and territories. With 11 branches around the world, we work to support our trained Climate Reality Leaders and network. Our strategy is two-pronged: 1) grow the climate movement and build the political will necessary to adopt policy solutions through our signature trainings around the globe, and 2) harness our ever-expanding network in support of three key areas of focus; reducing emissions, financing a just transition and strengthening international cooperation around climate.

Position Summary

The Campaigns Program Manager supports all aspects of engaging, equipping, and training a distributed network of volunteer leaders to participate in climate advocacy campaigns. In addition, the Program Manager maintains and moderates daily activities in the vibrant Slack community, developing and sharing resources, and serving as a personal point of contact for engaged volunteers. The Program Manager also acts as a resource for regional organizers and campaign managers on programmatic advocacy strategy and tools, creative problem-solving, as well as project management.


Reporting to the Campaign Strategy Senior Manager as a member of the Campaigns team, this position currently has no direct reports. This is a full time, exempt, benefits-eligible, position. The Climate Reality Project offers a flexible hybrid schedule, with staff working from our office in downtown Washington, DC at least two days per week to enable and encourage collaboration within and among teams. The salary range for this role is $74,970-76,500.


This position is within a union-represented collective bargaining unit, and specific terms and conditions of employment will be subject to a collective bargaining agreement between Climate Reality and the union.


Duties and Responsibilities:

Specific duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Identify and cultivate volunteers nationwide, embodying the organization’s values and building authentic relationships
  • Support a distributed network of volunteer leaders in hosting climate action events online and in-person, and cultivate welcoming and action-oriented community spaces on social platforms, Slack, and at events
  • Communicate regularly and effectively with internal stakeholders across teams, develop efficient resource-sharing systems, and prepare and update a weekly event template
  • Serve as a resource for the organization on relevant campaigns, action-related events, general advocacy campaign strategies, and digital community management
  • Support US regional organizers in their work to engage chapters on campaign-related programs and the integration of local and regional volunteers
  • Support the creation and implementation of US chapter campaign plans, providing training on relational and distributed organizing strategies, capacity building, feedback and coaching through prioritization of actions to create impact
  • Develop advocacy campaign related materials, guides, and facilitate trainings for programmatic activities, as well as broader Climate Reality campaigns
  • Coordinate closely with Digital Community Organizing Manager and Field Teams to support the development and growth of Reality Hub and other Climate Reality online organizing spaces
  • Utilize Climate Reality systems to track the progress of campaigns and development in coordination with the team
  • Maintain digital community values/guidelines and contribute to strong data management practices and program metrics
  • Support the transition and migration tools and platforms to those commonly used at The Climate Reality Project
  • Project manage programmatic elements and initiatives as needed in support of senior program and campaigns staff
  • Support and contribute to the ongoing improvement of our operations and enrichment of our culture, for example by serving on ad hoc or ongoing working groups, assisting with the onboarding and training of colleagues, and participating in efforts to assess, refine, and strengthen our culture and practices
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong organizational, written and verbal communications skills
  • Proficient in Salesforce, Slack and programs commonly used in community organizing
  • Excellent time management and organization skills
  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer required
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally on Climate Reality business

Education and Experience

  • Some college, Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • 3+ years of organizing and/or volunteer advocacy engagement experience
  • Significant grassroots and digital organizing experience with a focus on environmental, climate, or related policy / action area
  • Experience setting up, managing, and encouraging participation in Zoom webinars
  • Experience with digital community management or moderation a plus but not required
  • Project management experience preferred
  • Experience and awareness of cultural diversity, ability to work effectively with a diverse group of organizations and volunteers
