Job Description\n

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Ortho Trauma position on a Level 1 trauma unit working 12-hour night shifts with a NE or compact license required.

\n \n Responsibilities\n

  • Work in a 55-bed acute care hospital unit specializing in Med Surg, Orthopedics, and Trauma
  • Patient population includes post-op joint replacements, fractures, colon resections, COPD exacerbations, prostatectomy, cellulitis, sepsis, ortho trauma, GI bleeds, pneumonia, and failure to thrive
  • Nurse-to-patient ratios are 1:5-6
  • Mechanical lifts are available in every other room
  • Use of EPIC EMR system
  • Required to titrate drips including Heparin, lidocaine, and ketamine
  • Every other weekend shifts required
  • 12-hour night shifts (1830-0700)
  • Floating required to other medical surgical areas or to units with Med Surg patients awaiting beds
  • Tele/Monitor techs available to interpret strips; RNs should have tele awareness
  • Block scheduling is limited and travelers will be scheduled by staff
  • Responsible for managing multiple admissions and discharges per shift
  • Emphasis on hourly rounding and patient responsiveness
  • Charge nurse present on every shift and nurse aides available with 1:10-20 ratio
  • RNs required to wear navy blue scrubs
  • Unit serves culturally diverse populations including Spanish, Karen, and Burmese patients
  • Holiday coverage required for 2-3 holidays between Thanksgiving and New Year's
  • Orientation consists of 2 days, including a pass/fail skills exam
  • Maximum of 7 days RTO (request for time off) allowed during 13-week contracts and must be requested up front
  • Past employees (full time, part time, or PRN) of CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity within the past year are ineligible

\n \n Requirements\n

  • Active NE or compact RN license required at time of consideration; pending licenses will not be accepted
  • Current BLS (AHA) certification required
  • Minimum 2 years recent Med Surg experience required
  • Driver's license required for verification of 50-mile residency radius
  • Candidates must reside at least 50 miles from the facility and may not be current employees of any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity-affiliated facility
  • References required: one supervisor within last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from the last 3 years
  • Must pass an open book, skills-based orientation exam with a minimum score of 90%
  • Artificial nails are prohibited for infection control
