We need an expert IT Consultant to modernize our tech infrastructure. You’ll assess systems, pinpoint upgrades, and deliver strategic solutions to boost network performance, tighten security, and streamline operations for a government aviation client.

Job Title: Senior IT Consultant – Government/Aviation Sector
Location: Remote (Occasional travel to Norfolk, VA)
Job Type: Full-time (3-Year Contract)

About the Project

Join a high-impact, 3-year IT modernization initiative for a government aviation project. You’ll lead the optimization of critical IT infrastructure, ensuring secure, compliant, and efficient operations for systems supporting the National Airspace System.

Key Responsibilities

1. IT Infrastructure Modernization & Master Planning

  • Conduct comprehensive assessments of existing IT systems, identifying performance gaps, scalability issues, and security vulnerabilities.

  • Develop and execute an IT Master Plan outlining phased upgrades for network architecture, cloud integration, and legacy system modernization.

2. Cybersecurity & Compliance Leadership

  • Enforce PCI DSS compliance for payment processing systems and FAA/NIST standards for network security.

  • Configure and audit firewalls (IPFW/Palo Alto), VPNs, and access controls to protect sensitive aviation data.

  • Implement continuous monitoring (SIEM tools, vulnerability scans) and incident response protocols.

3. Government/Aviation-Focused Technical Consulting

  • Optimize Microsoft OS environments, TCP/IP routing, and SMTP systems for high-traffic aviation operations.

  • Deploy and integrate VOIP systems, FIDS/PA displays, and secure data-exchange interfaces.

  • Advise on cloud migration (AWS/Azure) while meeting government security requirements.

4. Stakeholder & Vendor Management

  • Coordinate with FAA teams, vendors, and contractors to align IT upgrades with mission-critical needs.

  • Lead vendor selection, contract negotiations, and SLA reviews for network hardware/software procurement.

5. Documentation & Training

  • Develop system manuals, maintenance protocols, and PCI compliance documentation.

  • Train aviation staff and stakeholders on new technologies and security best practices.

Ideal Candidate Profile

5+ years in IT consulting, with government/aviation sector experience (FAA, TSA, or defense agencies preferred).
✔ Expertise in:

  • Network infrastructure (TCP/IP, firewalls, VPNs, VPCs) and Microsoft OS environments.

  • PCI DSS compliance and FAA cybersecurity standards (NIST, RMF).

  • IT Master Plan development and large-scale modernization projects.
    PMP or CISSP certifications (a plus).
    ✔ Must pass government background checks and have no conflicts of interest with vendors.
